5Highly recommended!

Short of making your own 12-15dB gain cantenna, or spending lots of money for something similar, this is the best thing you can get. And it will probably be more than adequate for most users. The signal and link quality is very strong with this adapter, and the price is right.I've compared this Hawking USB adapter to the D-Link DWL-AG530 PCI adapter and to the Linksys WUSB54GS USB adapter, controlling for all other variables [with a generic router].The loser: The D-Link was abysmal, even with the freely positionable antenna. Compared to the USB adapters, this thing didn't even pull in a 1/3 of the signal. Don't bother, especially for the price. The mediocre: The Linksys USB adapter has a standard 2dB omnidirectional antenna, and a 6ft USB cable which allows for a good degree of positioning freedom. I would regularly get 60-75% signal strength, between 36 and 54 MBps...not bad considering how far I was from the router. If I got lucky and positioned the adapter perfectly, I could get about 90% signal sometimes [signal to noise ratio of about 37dB]. I also consistently picked up a neighbor's signal at about 50%. One usually cited disadvantage of using a USB adapter vs. a PCI adapter is the higher CPU usage by the USB device. This was true for this Linksys adapter with my older Athlon 1.3GHz processor. The CPU usage fluctuated between 5% and 12% higher than baseline with this device. The absolute winner: The Hawking USB adapter has a 6dB directional antenna and a 6ft USB cable which allows for a good amount of flexibity in positioning. The directional antenna is superb and pulls in lots of signal and rids of the noise. My primary signal jumped to 99% consistently at all positions with a signal to noise ratio of 62dB at the best position, and 50dB everywhere else [this is compared to 37dB with the Linksys]. The neighbor's signal jumped to 93%/40dB [compared to 50% with the Linksys]. And for the icing: My CPU usage decreased to between 0% and 4% (usually more like 2% max). This would be my first choice for most tasks, especially considering that most PCI cards don't come with a 6ft cable on their antenna, so the ability to position them optimally is limited. And the price is similar to most other adapters, and it's portable.Search it on Google and you'll find a few other corroborative reviews. A very solid product.

5OUTSTANDING
By M. L. Zielke
I thought I died and went to heaven after I installed this. I had a terrible connection upstairs. After I installed the Hawkings USB adapter/antenna, my connection was superb. I was also picking up several connections from the neighbours.Installation was a breeze....just pop the disc in, and install the drivers FIRST. THEN plug in the adapter/antenna. It will pick up available networks, and you select the one you want to use.....most likely your own.If you only have USB 1.1 on your computer, then it will perform as an 802.11b adapter. That is plenty fast for surfing the net and downloading email.I would highly recommend this product. I have become an instant Hawkings fan.

5It's working great
By E. Smith
Bought this to use in an RV park with Wi-Fi, my SOB (some other brand) notebook wi-fi adaptor could not connect. I followed the simple instructions (Windows XP) and connected immediately. Moved it around a little bit to get the best signal, good to go!
