Great food but don't be fooled by price

The food is great.But something has to be done about companies using ridiculous "list Prices" as a selling point. There is no where in the country where this food is selling for $120 as is claimed here. It is just a gimmick to make there price look good. But there is a time when a gimmick turns to fraud and I think this is it.Studies have shown that the the variation in prices is higher online than in brick and mortar stores - you aren't guaranteed a good price without looking around regardless of where it is coming from.

One of the top 10 foods out there!

Forget the TV advertised foods (purina, etc) as they are full of grains and wheat. Switch to this, specially if your dog is a small breed and overweight. Our 7 yr old Jack Russel was looking portly; we switched to this brand and within 4 weeks he had a waist and muscles, and more energy!

High Quality and all around excellent.

I have been on a quest to find the most nutritious dog food for the last year. After trying various brands this one is the definite and obvious winner. My dogs are seniors but they prefer the puppy recipe to the senior recipe. The puppy one is loaded with protein and nutrients which make their coats shine. They love the food, and are in great health, spirits and have boundless energy.

My Favorite Indulgence

This, along with my commercial Bunn Coffee Grinder, is my favorite indulgence. I have owned a Bunn designed for home use for 20 years and I finally took the plunge and bought this one. Bunn is the industry standard and for good reason. Every aspect of this brewer is quality.Bunns work differently than most home drip machines in that they have a water reservoir that holds about 2 1/2 "loads" of water at any one time that is constantly kept at brewing temperature - the machine is "on" all the time. This is what allows you to brew a pot of coffee instantly. No waiting for the water to heat up. The switches on the front are for the warming plates, which I don't use. I prefer to transfer the hot brewed coffee to an air pot so it doesn't get bitter but still stays hot. This particular model doesn't need to be plumbed. You just pour the correct amount of water from the supplied pitcher into the top of the machine - hence the name "Pour-o-matic". It makes 12 cups of perfectly brewed coffee in a couple of minutes. Making morning coffee is such a pleasure now. I may be a rotten cook, but I can serve up a fine cup of coffee with my Bunn!The stainless steel case is thick, sturdy and designed for easy cleaning. I live in a hard water area where mineral deposits clog up coffee brewers overnight but this is designed to make it easy to keep it running freely. Even the spray head is stainless and is easy to unscrew and rinse out daily. That also gives you access to the water delivery tubing which you just ream out with the supplied flexible spring rod (called the de-liming tool). It's very quiet when heating up the water - a big thing if you've ever had a different brand of commercial brewer.If you can't live without your brewed coffee and you can afford this pricey indulgence, you'll never regret buying a Bunn.

Only does one thing...

... and that is make coffee, but it does it damned well.I am not going to tell you the specifics of how a Bunn makes coffee; the previous reviewer did it very well and if you have ever eaten in a restaurant, doughnut shoppe, or coffee shop you have probably seen one.I use the VP 17 in my home. You may ask why since this is really intended for commercial use. Well I have owned this unit for nearly four years without a hiccup. Grind the beans, pour the pre-measured amount of filtered (I made a mark with a permanent marker on the water jug) water and viola - the same identically made cup of coffee day after day in less than two minutes!!!I mean I am drinking coffee in less time than most makers are just thinking about heating the water, and it is the same cup day after day after day. No surprises.It does cost more than your usual home unit, but this thing is built like a Sherman Tank and if you actually needed it could produce enough coffee to take care of a small army. Four gallons an hour - can you imagine how long (like maybe days) it would take your average home coffee maker to brew that much coffee.Like the other reviewer stated it is an extravagance but if you want to quickly and reliably brew your morning coffee it is a neat way to do it.To sum it up a friend asked does it really make better coffee - to which I replied not only that but it looks damn COOL doing it. Makes a neat statement in addition to a great cup of joe.P.S. I do home roast my beans and burr grind fresh every pot and man you have no idea how good a cup of coffee can taste. I know probably need to get a life....but hey sometimes simple is good.

very happy with new machines

This machine starts brewing coffee as soon as you pour water in. The switches are only for turning the warmers on or off. I appreciate the simplicity, no water hook-up and no plastic hot water dispenser hanging off the front of the machine.

Great Coffee Maker

Our office finally pitched in and purchased this coffee maker, after years of going through leaky household-type coffee makers. We used to run two coffee makers all day long - probably eight pots per day each. Our new Bunn is faster and can keep up with our demand. Be aware that this Bunn VLPF does NOT include the two decanters pictured. Only when the box arrived, did the outside of the box mention "decanters not included." We've been using it for over a week now and so-far-so-good. I also purchased the extra 3-year warranty, just in case.

Great for Turtle Tank

Searched long to find the right filter. These Bio filters with multiple chambers for media is the way to go with turtles. We have a female red ear slider about 7 inches front to back of shell (she was about the size of a silver dollar when we got her two years ago). She is very messy and the in tank filter was just not handling it. This filter with fresh water and a good shell scrubbing of our baby has worked fine. We used to have to clean her tank and change water every week to keep her water from getting too filthy. This filter in a forty gallon aquarium has been set up for three months now and other than adding water as it evaporates and cleaning her rocks we haven't had to do anything else except feed her. We did clean out the filter once because she made a mess of some fresh aquatic plants we bought for her. She chewed up fifteen dollars worth of plants in just two days. She probably ate some but most of them were chewed and left floating. The filter clogged from all the plant material. But I can't blame the filter for that. The water is always crystal clear. She seems to love her environment now.There is a couple of things to keep in mind when using the filter for turtles. The intake tubing inside the tank comes in sections that have to be pushed together. They tend to loose prime at the connections because turtle tanks are only about half full and some of the connections are above the water level. I had to glue them together to keep the prime. The filter has to absolutely be at least 16 inches below the tank bottom. I set ours on the floor and the tank on the top of a 29 inch high credenza. When priming remember to fill the tube with water with the filter hose valve in the off position (the instructions will explain). Make sure there are no air leaks and screw on the cap tightly on the prime hole when you are done priming. With no air leaks in the intake hose, the tank about half full or more and the top of the filter about 16 inches below the bottom of the tank when you lock the hoses in place which opens the valves the weight of the water in the intake hose should pull water through the intake tube to fill the filter and you should at this point have a prime. This should now let you turn the filter on without loosing prime and your tank should stay clean like ours for months. This filter has three cannisters and each cannister has two chambers. We are using the foam layers as they came with the filter, two large pore followed by two small pore foams filters in the first cannister (this is from the bottom of the filter to the top). The water moves around the cannisters to the bottom of the filter and is pulled up to the top. So the set up is from the bottom up. The second cannister we used for the biomass. We used the round pellets in the first (bottom) chamber with a mesh top (included), followed by the star biomass media in the second chamber (top). In the third cannister we used nitrate/nitrite (white amonia media) in the first chamber followed by a mesh and then charcoal media in the second chamber with a micron filter on top followed by another mesh. Then we placed the top on that and closed it. After about a month and a half we had the plant incident and had to clean the filter. I just rinsed everything out real good except for the biomass media which I lightly rinsed (you want to keep the bacteria that collects on the media because this helps eat the chemicals in the water and solids). I then replaced everything again and it has been working great since. They recommend changing the carbon every month but we haven't yet. They also recommend changing the nitrate/nitrite media every ten months, so we have a while to go. The micron filter needs to be changed also after a few months. I wouldn't change the foam unless it is clogged to the point were I can't get it cleaned out. It is only to collect solids and retain them till they decompose and are absorbed by the bacteria.I think any multiple chamber filter would work as well. I am skeptical about anything below three chambers for turtles. One large turtle I think is the equivalent of a thousand fish in feces and pee (that's just my guess). This filter is rated for a much bigger tank but I think a smaller filter would not have worked for a turtle as large as ours. Turtles do grow fast and keep growing. They also live for forty years so get a large filter that will handle larger tanks. If you can afford it I would go for the XP4 which is bigger and rated for larger aquariums. For turtles I think multiple chambers are really important because they do not need oxygen in the water since they do not have gills but they do need clean water to stay healthy and they are super, super, mega super messy.The biggest complaints I have read from turtle owners about filters is getting a prime. Remember, you can not have any air leaks in the intake tube or hosing. We are going to look for a solid tube that we can cut to use for our intake so we do not have connections above the water.Cons: Only the tubing, It should be a solid piece that you cut to size instead of multiple small pieces you connect together. But then again this setup works fine for fish tanks since the level of the water would always be above the connections. For turtle tanks which are only filled a little above half way you need to glue the connections above the water or find a solid tube to use instead.

Good value but a big design flaw

The XP3 is a very good canister filter.The good? 3 decent sized trays, "priming" intake tube, configurable outflow tubes, all-you-need-in-a-box package (with exception of biomedia).The bad? The quick disconnect is not heavy duty and can be distorted by any tension on one of the tubes (especially the output)--resulting in a leak because the O-rings do not seat. Also, the o-ring are not a "tight" fit and cannot handle much pressure. If you have any inline accessories that constitute a significant load (ie. uv sterilizers, CO2 reactors, etc), water will leak past the disconnect o-rings and onto your floor after flooding the top unit on the inside! Worst of all, this happens after about an hour or so and is not readily apparent!Bottom line: I would much rather NOT have the convenience of the quick disconnect and instead have some external ball valves. My XP3 leaked on my the first time I used it. I searched online and this is a common problem.

This filter is AWESOME. End of story

Sorry to the 1 star reviewers, they seem like they are a little instruction-inhibited. Priming yes, took a minute but get the valve right and it works fine. You're right, no tension in the tubes but who places their filter in the bedroom when the tank is in the living room? I think they provided AMPLE tubing and i have a 75 gallon tank sitting on a standard 75 gallon stand with inflow on one side and outflow on the other.THIS FILTER IS AWESOME END OF STORY:Cleaning cleaning cleaning and more cleaning. I have a 75gal tank and will have 53 live plants and several fish as soon as the water is completely conditioned. Needless to say, as you're conditioning water, you clean the filter daily for a few weeks (except the bio filter, more on that in a minute). This filter is incredibly simple to clean. You unplug the power, raise the shutoff valve and carry the entire filter to the sink or bathtub. Wipe down each piece, rinse the particle filters and you're done. Attach the shutoff valve and turn it back on. you only have to prime this thing once, right out of the box. then every week when you routinely clean it's MINIMAL water spilling, if any. the hoses remain full of water so no more priming necessary. This is hands down without a doubt the most genius design; it actually makes the "hastle" of filter cleaning a piece of cake.The design of the filter is also genius. it pumps water to the bottom and then sucks upwards through the filters, using gravity as an advantage for extra filtering. instead of shoving water through a filter and discharging to the tank, it sends the unfiltered water to the bottom and "pulls" it upwards. Large trash sits completely in the bottom of the bucket, before ever entering the filter systems. Large particle filter at the bottom, then the bio filter in the middle, then the fine particle filter at the top. The bio filter is also awesome. Consider it a miniature wetlands for your tank, in my opinion being the most effective of all types of filtering.The thing is totally silent and the outflow tube sits BELOW the water surface. no waterfall noise all night long, it's a completely silent tank. also excellent that there's no surface disruption to release your CO2 if you use a feeder for your plants.all in all one awesome filter. top to bottom left to right the most convenient easy-to-use system i have ever seen. if you have problems priming the lines to begin with, i did too, but after a few tries it finally started flowing. that's why it's called PRIMING. done deal never to need to be done again til i ever have to clean the hoses. to those that had problems with customer service, i can't comment as i didn't need them. good luck though, thankfully my product worked right out of the box. highly, highly recommended

Quiet and efficient

This is a great filter that cleaned up my overpopulated 20 gal. tank overnight. The water went from murky to crystal clear and colorless in just hours. I had used two different hang-on-the-side power filters that would get clogged in 2 days and couldn't keep the water clear. Set-up of the Filstar was easy and full of options. Cleaning, when the flow rate does goes down, has also been a snap. It also runs very quietly. I highly recommend it.

Excellent and easy to use

We had a pet turtle (turtles are filthy and smelly, I recommend never owning one), and this was the only filter (out of about a dozen that we'd used in previous years) that even came close to doing a good job keeping her tank clean. We had her in a 50 gallon aquarium, and I was pleased with this filtration system. The turtle is gone, and my brother is now using it in his fish tank, and it does extremely well. It's SO easy to disassemble, clean, and get running again. It's also one of the most affordable when it comes to having to replace the filters. I also like the fact that it's quiet.The only thing I'd warn against is don't cut the plastic tubes too short. Initially we cut them to suit our exact needs, but we later changed the height of our aquarium and for the new set-up the tubes were too short to reach the top. We didn't leave ourselves any extra, so don't make the same mistake we did.

Good quiet powerful filtration

I purchased this filter from Big Al's at about the same prize as Amazon had it. It is for one of my turtle tanks, two sliders on a 40 gallon breeder with about 12 gallon total volume. After a fairly easy initial set-up (you'll have to grease the hoses with vaseline for them to go in all the way) and priming following detailed instructions (the canister is currently located at the same level as the aquarium water, making it a bit tricky to completely fill in the canister compartments), I noticed at times a gargling noise, the canister was taking micro-bubbles. Upon further inspection I noticed a small leak from the electric line outlet at the motor housing. I thought maybe I got a Dud, however, instead of returning or calling for technical support, I decided to fill in around the cable with some of my aquarium safe silicon and ...vuala, the leak was corrected as well as the noise. Now what I have is a very powerful filter (it cleaned my turtle tank in a matter of minutes), crystal clear water, nice outflow through a spraybar outlet and it's even quieter than my eheim eccho. So quiet you can barely hear a faint huming...If I didn't see the spray bar outflow, I would have to put my ear on it, or touch it to feel the vibration and see if it's working. I also disconected the tubing valve, for a test maintenance rehearsal to know that it will be very easy to do so when required. Also you don't have to prime again since the hoses seal once you separate the tubing valve from the canister motor compartment. Just lift the level, a clean, easy and dry operation. Clean-up will be a breeze. Overall I'm very satisfied with this baby, I would have given it a 5 star ratings if it wasn't for the the initial water/air leak described above (maybe a manufacturing defect on my unit). I would remommend this to a friend and I would certainly buy again. I'll have to monitor long term performance, but so far, I'm satisfied with this product. If you decide to buy this filter, consider an upgrade to the xp2 or xp3. I know I would.
