4Mission Style Coffee Table
By swongo
The table came about 2 days BEFORE the posted delivery date. That was a plus. It was easy to assemble, did it by myself within 30 minutes. Instructions was clear. The quality was very good not the best but for the price it was worth it. All solid wood construction. The only thing that I saw that could have been better was the sie screws/bolts that held the legs onto the lower frame. The holes were not recessed therefore the tops of the screws were visable and were not quite all the way flush with the frame. Not a big problem and most people would not notice it. Overall a very good product at a very reasonable price.

4Excellent table for the price
By Spencer
I was happy to receive more or less what I was looking for -- a cheap, solidly constructed table that looked exactly like the item pictured. Clearly this isn't a top-of-the-line table, but it looks like it does in the pictures and doesn't wobble or feel like it might collapse if you sat something on it. In short, it doesn't much stand out one way or the other (neither an amazing piece of artistic-furniture nor a cheap-looking accent piece), which is exactly why I like it. The table is delivered in a thin, squarish box and requires a little bit of assembly, but it'll take you about 5 minutes to throw together so it's definitely not exactly difficult or intensive to assemble.

5I always buy OEM, they just work!
By Thomas D Frogh
I learned long ago, after market printer parts can eat up all the money savings by wasting my time getting them to work. I always buy OEM parts because they work...period. No muss, no fuss. Time spent trouble shooting is time not spent making money.Hopefully, this is my last one. We just bought a new Ricoh printer and its consumables are FAR less expensive

5Stunning performance in micro-sized package.
By VeXuS
When I bought this I had no idea how good it is, especially when I compare it to other models out there now. DLP, auto-imaging, Carl-Zeis lens, mouse-remote for USB presentations, and the list goes on with it's remarkable resolution and quality build. Sometimes you buy something and have buyer's regret, but not with this one. Oh boy, when I look around and compare with what's around locally, I can't believe how much I got in this tiny package. Since I move around a lot, this is my TV to have. I use it for PS2, Web surfing, and DVD & Dvr watching. I simply project with a screen, yep you heard it, directly on the wall, making a 20ft+ sized super wall of video. It's so large with such great detail thanks to the resolution, that I often have 1 window surfing the web, while in the adjacent window my wife and I recline watching our DVR recordings together. Much better than slouching over my laptop, you bet!

5The Cadillac of Projectors!!
By Colleen Van Guilder
I have just ordered one of these from Amazon the night before I wrote this review, so I haven't received it yet. But just looking at the description make me drool in anticipation!I was especially attracted to its small size. While I was "projector shopping", the size was one of my concerns. When I recieve this in the mail and get it up and running, I'll probably write a follow-up review discussing it's pros and potentional cons. You may be turned off by the price, but considering the abundance of features that it offers, it can be a wise investment!

4Great Comfortable Futon!
By Scott Casey
Lets get the cons out of the way first. First, it took much longer to get here then I thought. It said in stock on the site but got a call from the company that was selling it a few days later to say it was back ordered. All said and done took about 26 days to get here. The personal call was a nice touch though. Second, There were no instructions in the any of the boxes. However having put together and taken apart many futons in my college years I found I didn't even need them. If you take a look, most of the parts only have 1 place they can go, just use some common sense. Also you can download them from the manufacturers website if you need them. Thirdly, it is possible to put this together with just the tools that are included in the parts(allen wrench and a dinky fixed wrench) but it will make your life easier if you have your own tools. I put this together solo in about an hour and a half, it will take you much shorter if you have someone else helping. Lastly, the folding from sitting position to bed is easy however the folding back to the sitting position from the bed was a bit tough at first, I threw some WD40 on the hinges and it made it a bit better, but still a bit tough to get back to sitting postion.Once assembled the Futon frame is very sturdy and i'm quite happy with it. It's nice looking and the storage in the arms is excellent. None of the parts creak or anything, and it feels very sturdy even when flopping on it hard.

5Pleasantly surprised
By Roberta L. Havholm
This frame is not difficult to assemble, but having two people makes it much easier. We had it together in 30 minutes. Well made and very attractive, it is much nicer looking than the photos provided. A full size futon mattress fits perfectly here, and, if you don't go super cheap on the mattress, the unit is super comfortable and sturdy. Easy open and easy close. We are very satisfied with our purchase..... We will buy this company's products again.

3Acceptable
By BlackhawkFan
This serves as both my couch and my bed.The futon is supported by a welded steel frame. This frame is adequate for my 200 lb frame, as I haven't detected any deformation after a month of daily use.The down side is when in bed mode, there's a pronounced ridge running along the center length-wise. There's also a slight slope, creating the sensation of sleeping on a hill. The end pieces are massive, and while the tops serve for both arm support and to hold a cup of coffee, be careful about dropping anything down inside the magazine rack, as retrieving it with American male arms is awkward at best.

5scanning 120 film slides
By F. Rump
I purchased the Nikon 9000ED scanner mostly because I could not find anything else that would scann my 2.75 x 2.75 slides. There may be other products out there but the recommendations I got was to go with the Nikon. Basically I inherited a case of these slides which feature my family from roughly 1960 to 1979. Most of the slides are badly faded, underexposed or otherwise not usable. So I figured in order to save the memories I need to spend the money to do it right.I am not disappointed. Initially I kept getting a mysterious error in the post-processing cycle. After many emails back in forth with 3rd level support staff at Nikon (nice to be able to get support) we figured out that I was setting something called digital GEM on when that wasn't necessary. The process works on badly grained film which I didn't have. Once I changed the default scan settings by not asking for GEM corrections, all has gone beautiful for me.The red-brown slides magically come back to me with their original colors via the digital ROC process. I'm not too technical on all the things that happen within the hardware-software process but the results an amateur like me can get are simply awsome. I scan the slides at a full 4000 bpi and store the results as huge TIFF files. I figure that disk space is cheap but at least I have the original in a best possible digitized format. The slides will continue to deteriorate but not the digiatl data.Fred Rump

5Pretty Good.
By Buffy
If I could update my rating it would be 4 stars (instead of 5). 1/9/06Original review: This was incredibly easy to set up and overall the scans are sharp and the color is nice. The Digital Ice 4 included with this scanner does a tremendous job with removing scratches, dust speckles, etc. It's too bad Digital Ice isn't offered with more scanners--it's really a key selling point for this brand. One problem I am having is with a horizontal shadow at the top of each frame. This seems consistent no matter which negative I am scanning. I am currently investigating and trying to contact Nikon about this. If this very faint shadow were not there---this would have been a perfect scanner. I will update when this issue is resolved one way or another. 5/25/05Update 1/9/06: the shadowing effect described above seems to happen primarily with high contrast images shot on negative film. Most images shot on transparency do not have the shadow problemUpdate: 1/9/06: I learned through usage and contacting Nikin support that you must turn Digital ICE off when scanning black and white negatives (meaning you'll have to manually clean up those images yourself). Too bad, because the ICE does a tremendous job in removing dust speckles.Update 1/9/06: my scanner had a problem where it wouldn't eject the 35mm tray, it had become stuck in the unit. I had to take it back to a Nikon support office about 45 min from where I live. They seem to have fixed the problem as it has been working fine since then (that was about 2 months ago). Fortunately, this happened while the unit was still within warranty. Nikon support did not give me any hassles when I took the scanner in for repair. For the most part this works very well. I have had some problems (the shadowing, the tray becoming stuck) which I don't expect for an (approx) 2K piece of equipment. In lieu of something better from another manufacturer, this seems like the best piece of equipment if you need to scan in film negatives or transparancies to get high quality scans.

5For medium format negatives, easily better than my local pro lab
By Neurasthenic
I was astonished at what this scanner could do, in terms of preserving the gentle tones of my black and white negatives. My only regret is that there is no equivalent to Digital ICE for black and white. That problem is not unique to this scanner, of course. The quality of the images I get from this scanner, with 6cm x 6cm negatives from a 1970-vintage twin lens camera, trounces the images I get with a Canon 5D SLR. I also have used it with 35MM negatives and Kodachrome slides, which work beautifully, and with both 4.5cm x 4.5cm negatives and 110 negatives, which require that I jury-rig a special mask for the glass-covered medium format carriage (FH-869GR, not included). The 9000ED comes with a 35MM carriage, 35MM slide carriage, and basic MF carriage. For the price, I would have preferred if they had included the glass-covered, rotating 120 unit as well.[2009 note: there is a bug in the NikonScan software that drives this scanner such that with recent versions of Mac OSX -- starting with 10.5.6 I believe -- the software won't recognize the scanner if there are other firewire devices attached at the time the software is launched. The other devices can be plugged back in after the software is running, but they have to be unplugged when it starts. Vuescan, a popular third party software package that works with this scanner, does not have the same problem. I prefer NikonScan despite this quirk, but opinions vary.]

5Bretford Mobile Computer Workstation Cart
By Jaime Heras
This is a very rugged and well made industrial cart. It features a slide out keyboard/mouse tray, a very spacious bottom CPU shelf, and a cable box for storage of the power and connection cables. The slides for the keyboard shelf are high quality, operate very smoothly, and when the tray is fully pushed in out of the way, have a "locking" detent to prevent the tray from sliding out during travel. The tray can be installed at one of three height levels depending on your preference. If after assembly, you decide to move the tray to a different height, it is easy to relocate it.The bottom CPU shelf is more than wide enough to accommodate, side by side, both my full size computer and my printer with room to spare. The cart also comes with adjustable CPU brackets to keep the CPU in place, and can be installed on either the right or left side of the bottom shelf. They also include some self stick Velcro strips to attach your CPU to the brackets. The shelf is 35.25 inches wide, and even after installing the CPU brackets, I still had 22 inches for my printer. The shelf has 24 inches of total depth front to back. However, depending on how you choose to install the cable box, you may end up with a depth of only 19.5 inches, which in my case was still enough room for my full size tower with rear attached cables. The clearance height of the bottom shelf depends on where you install the keyboard shelf, and leaves you a height of 17, 19 or 21 inches. The cable box is designed to fit between the rear legs and can be installed in several positions. It can also be installed in either a fixed position or in an adjustable height position. Mine came with a six outlet power strip, however the power strip may not be included with some model numbers. The cart was easy to assemble and the parts fit together well. You'll need a Phillips screw driver and a pair of pliers. They include a "wrench" for tightening two of the hardware sizes. I had a little trouble fitting the cable box between the rear legs. It's a very tight fit. I guess that's why they recommend you have a rubber mallet as part of your assembly tools. My only negative is that the assembly instructions could be a little better. For instance, the slides for the keyboard tray come apart (as most do). Half is attached to the cart, and half is attached to the tray. You need to take the slides apart to attach them to their respective parts, but the instructions don't tell you how to do that. Fortunately for me, because of experience, I knew that the little black lever on the side of the slide, when extended, is for the purpose of separating the two halves of the slide. All in all, if you're looking for a rugged, mobile, utilitarian computer cart that doesn't take up a lot of space, this is a good choice.

4A great gift
By Jeffrey B. Parfitt
This package arrived quickly, and there was no damage. Another review had mentioned that the ring was much smaller than it appeared to be on the site, and I definitely agree. I would recommend this as a gift for anyone who has smaller hands and doesn't like bulky rings. The quality is wonderful, the stones are cut beautifully and are very clear. Again, highly recommended.

5Great alternative to more expensive Coolscan 5000
By JanSobieski
The Coolscan V is an excellent cheaper alternative to the Coolscan 5000 which I have also owned. My immediate project included about 1500 slides from my own collection, my fathers collection, and my grandfather's collection. Most of my father's slides are Kodachrome. Much has been written about the inability of this scanner to scan Kodachrome slides and said about ICE4 not working with Kodachrome. Well, I have some good news The ICE4 does work extremely well for the most part. However, with Kodachrome slides it does produce minor artifacts in about 5 percent of the slides. I scanned with ICE (not ICE4) always on and then rescanned if I encountered unacceptable artifacts. I did notice that the scanner ICE feature was more likely to be stumped by old Kodachrome slides where subjects were wearing shirts with stripes. The GEM ROC and DEE (the other stalwarts of the ICE4 other than ICE itself) work on Kodachrome slides as well, but I found that the results were unpredictable and that I could achieve better results myself in Photoshop far more quickly. The GEM ROC and DEE features simply took too long and slowed down the scanning unacceptably. The results, for me, were not worth the additional scanning time. So I never used these features. But the "enhance" feature on the scanner I used nearly 100% of the time with great results - much better than the GEM ROC and DEE features. The scanner is fast and does produce wonderful wonderful detailed scans, easily demonstrating the grain in the transparancies at 3000 and 4000 dpi. The Kodachrome slides were a challenge to the Dynamic Range of the scanner, but I believe that most of the detail in the shadows that is there was extracted. With dark slides I used the VERY useful gain feature turning it all the way up to 2 in the really dark slides. Unfortunately, Kodachrome, with all of its many attributes, does have substantial downsides including a very narrow exposure latitude and shadow detail is simply lacking. I think the scanner accurately reproduced the information including the colors on the Kodachrome slides, with perhaps a slight bluish cast noticed in some cases. It wasn't until I was finished scanning all of the culled slides that I undertook to scan my select color negatives. And this scanner really came into its own scanning color negatives. Don't even TRY to scan color negatives without ICE because the results are unbelievably bad. Even pristine negatives have scratches and dust that magically are erased by the ICE feature. What a godsend. The scanned color negatives were just beautiful with very accurate color rendition. But immediately I noticed much more grain in the color negatives (Royal Gold and Fuji Superia Gold) than in the scanned slides. One note unrelated to the scanner itself. Until you've used a digital scanner to scan your color negatives you can't begin to realize how far superior Kodachrome, Provia, and Ektachrome slides are to color negatives insofar as capturing detail. Even the best color negatives have much more grain that Kodachrome. And the difference in color negatives is substantial too.The V was slower than the 5000, but honestly the difference for the non-professional scanner, to me, was not worth the additional investment. The V represents a superb value giving you nearly all of the advantages of the 5000 other than speed for a substantially cheaper price. The included Nikon software worked fantastic for me. I downloaded a copy of VueScan which according to many reviews is superior to the Nikon software and found that for me the Nikon software was easier to work with and produced superior results.Setup Summary: I scanned at a 16 bit color depth and 4000 pixels per inch with the scan enhancer turned on and the Digital ICE turned on. I did not use GEM ROC and DEE because of inconsistent results. I turned up the gain as necessary for dark slides and turned it down for light slides. Gain adjustments were only necessary on about 15 - 20% of the slides.Setting up the Nikon Scan window was a little tricky too. I placed the tool palette in the far upper right corner of the window with the scan window placed under it to the right. The image window occupied the largest portion space to the left.I can recommend this scanner without reservation. It is a phenomenal piece of equipment. If speed is not a paramount consideration and you are not a professional scanner needing the options (the auto feeder) offered by the 5000 then, in my opinion, the V represents an absolutely tremendous value.

5First personal transparency scanner
By Steve Jacobson
Having worked with professional drum scanners (Hell Graphic Systems), I know a little about scanning. This Nikon Coolscan V ED is the first personal scanner I have worked with and am pleasantly surprised. I have inhereted the old familly slide collection and several of the slides are grossly underexposed, or darkened with age. The V ED has the sensitivity to pull out more image than I had hoped for, with very little noise. The provided software is no replacement for Photoshop, but can go a long ways to giving acceptable results without other image retouching software. I am eager to see SilverFast for the V ED however!

The only problems I've encountered is unexpected termination of the program, and mis-judging frame boundaries of negative strips. Negative scanning is a snap, an unexpected pleasure as thinking color in reverse is painful (on German drum scanners).

For the price, this is a very highly capable scanner worthy of your consideration. If your scan rate needs are high, consider the faster version, and a FAST G5 Macintosh. A 1.25 GHz G4 gets a workout on the tougher scans.

5Scanner does not disappoint
By PJ
Decade's collection of fading film this COOLSCAN can handle. You can obtain detailed images that are truly vivid, sharp, and better than the original then technology. Just remember to use DEE correctly. Read below for further details on DEE.Batch scanning can be done with one click on the Scan button in Nikon Scan 4's firmware. The maintenance free red, green, blue, and infrared LED light source is gentle to film. The 4000 ppi optical resolution is an ideal start for outputting A3+ prints on the new crop of large format bubblejet and inkjet printers.Reading the Nikon Scan Reference Manual in the Nikon Scan Reference Manual/Easy Scanning Guide CD would be your best learning tool to get the most out of your scanner. For the most accurate results, the first thing to do before scanning is to set your preferences by clicking on the Prefs button in the Control Area of the Scan Window. When enabled, the Digital ICE quad Advanced software works well with most film. The Manual will explain that ICE, ROC, GEM, and DEE will not operate with the optional FH-G1 Medical Holder.ICE will not work on monochrome film unless the film has been developed in colour. ICE will not work properly on Kodachrome, but will work on other brands of slides. Noise may appear if ICE is used on overexposed or very vivid images. ICE will reduce the overall sharpness of the image. ICE is not not designed nor does ICE advertise itself to remove all dust and scratches from film. ICE will reduce most of the dust and scatches, however. You will have to use a third party application like Adobe Photoshop to remove the remaining dust and scratches. ICE alone will double the scanning time of 38 seconds.ROC may add colour to monochrome or grayscale images. ROC is not necessary for properly exposed colour images. ROC alone will almost double the scanning time.GEM will remove most grain and soften the image. Best to just use the default setting of 3 for a balanced smooth-grained result and to elimate any annoying hot pixels provided you haven't oversharpened or overused DEE. GEM alone will almost triple the scanning time.DEE works best when the image is cropped to exclude other unexposed areas of the film. Don't get me wrong, DEE does work beautifully! If Unsharp Mask (UM) is used incorrectly prior to processing the image, DEE will mainly show hot pixels in mid-tones and shadow areas effectively ruining the print. To avoid hot pixels in most photographs, either sparingly set the UM in Nikon Scan to less than 25% Intensity/25% Halo Width/0 Threshold Level or set the UM in Photoshop to about 125% Amount/1.5 Radius/1 to 3 Threshold. Depending on the image, using the default setting of 50 on DEE and adjusting the highlight lever from 190 to 255 will produce smooth and pleasing tones. Turning DEE off and using Photoshop CS's Shadow/Highlight tool sparingly on the processed image in LAB Lightness provides similar manual control of shadows and highlights. Also, remember to set the resolution output to your printer by clicking on the Custom button and select your printer in the Crop Menu. Also it's usually better to crop the image to the desired output dimensions to ensure 100% coverage (what-you-see-is-what-you-get) on your bordered prints. DEE alone will almost quadruple the scanning time. When enabled, Scan Image Enhancer (SIE) will automatically adjust hue. It does not work with darker images. In fact, the scan produces darker images. You are better off using DEE to pull out hidden detail in the shaded areas.ICE, ROC, GEM, DEE, and SIE together will almost quintuple the scanning time. While waiting for the breathtaking results, you can spend the next few minutes to contemplate on the next advanced Nikon or Canon DSLR to buy to release you from ever having to scan 35mm film.UM can be created to all colours, or individually to red, green, blue, cyan, magenta, or yellow colours in the image. Deselect blue if you do not want to emphasize the grain in an image with blue sky. Remember to use UM at the end before scanning the negative to output the final image. The SA-21 strip-film adaptor only works for 2 - 6 frames. To save money by not having to buy the optional 1 - 6 frame FH-3 film holder, place a 1 frame negative into an empty cardboard slide holder and insert into the MA-21 slide holder. Remember to select Neg (color), and Calibrated RGB in the Control Area before scanning.Along with a short USB 2.0 cable, included in the package is a Nikon View 6 CD, which is an application, used to organize saved pictures in TIFF and JPEG file formats only. According to the Manual, large files created in Nikon Scan may not show on Nikon View slide shows. Before clicking on the Scan button, press Ctrl (MS Windows) and the Autofocus button. Then left click on a focal point in the preview image to ensure accurate focusing at that point. You can always change the focus point using the same method, or by using the Focus Tool in the Layout Tools palette. The palette can also be customized to suit.If you have to use the Analog Gain palette to correct or adjust the colour values for each of the elements in the scanner's light source, your LED's may require repair. The probability of repair to the LED's is not specifically discussed in the Manual. If desktop or cubbyhole space is an issue, the scanner can be placed with either the top or side vents facing up. Remember to provide the minimum clearances to the scanner for ventilation. The dual wrap around band of rubber feet will ensure a cushioned slip resistant footing. After processing the image and for most situations for the various film brands, Photoshop gives you better fine-tuning control of the scanned image because of their larger selection of imaging enhancing Tools.Compared to filmstrip scanners that come with flatbed scanners, COOLSCAN has more options and is by far the better equipment to use to obtain satisfying scans, especially at 14-bit depth. Practice and patience will make perfect photographs.

5An outstanding scanner and a pleasure to use!
By JanSobieski
First of all, let me say I am a neophyte when it comes to scanning. My mother passed away recently and I wanted to go through my father's 20,000 slides and scan the best ones before they, as many before them, disappeared into the hands of one of my 7 other siblings never to be found again. After culling my father's slides I ended up with about 1000 I wanted to scan. After culling my own slides I ended up with another 250 slides. Additionally, I had about 250 slides from my grandfather slides And after that I decided to go through my color negative collection and scan the best of those as well. A daunting project! But honestly well worth the effort. And the difference in color negatives is substantial too.The included Nikon software worked fantastic for me. I downloaded a copy of VueScan which according to many reviews is superior to the Nikon software and found that for me the Nikon software was easier to work with and produced superior results. The software did cause my computer to crash occasionally which was an aggravation, but a minor one when considered against its many attributes.Setup Summary: I scanned at a 8 bit color depth (to reduce file size to 55MB and because I could not see a difference between 8 and 16 bit depth in the old slides) and 4000 pixels per inch with the scan enhancer turned on and the Digital ICE turned on. I did not use GEM ROC and DEE because of inconsistent results. I turned up the gain as necessary for dark slides and turned it down for light slides. Gain adjustments were only necessary on about 15 - 20% of the slides. The only two variables that I used once I was set up and running were gain adjustment and type of film or slide. All other adjustments were made in PS IF necessary. The scan at these settings took 90 seconds.Setting up the Nikon Scan window was a little tricky too. I placed the tool palette in the far upper right corner of the window with the scan window placed under it to the right. The image window occupied the largest portion space to the left.I can recommend this scanner without reservation. It is a phenomenal piece of equipment.

5Works beautifully, although slower than you might expect
By J. Rolfe
I am using this product almost exclusively for slide scanning, so my comments only apply to that aspect of this product.

If you are like me and wondering whether you should suffer through using a consumer level slide scanner or fork out the dough for this one, then the quality this produces when scanning dark slides should be enough to convince you alone. And that's just the beginning. I've used consumer level scanners before and no amount of tweaking or photoshop'ing can match the quality the Coolscan 5000 produces. For professionals, this is of course a no brainer, but for semi-professional folks like me, this is a major investment, and I needed some convincing that it would be worth it. I am now convinced.

Don't put too much stock into the scan times (and feed times for the sf-210 auto feeder). These times are without any Digital ICE, auto exposure, auto focus, etc. However, I have found if you do not use these features, you are wasting your time. After much tweaking to get all the settings such that the final result looked just like the original slide, I am looking at about 1 minute and 30 seconds per slide using the sf-210 (AMD 2.2 Ghz 1GB Ram, scanning at 2000 dpi)

I have found that without tweaking, you get a bluish hue (although a little less so for Kodachrome slides). I have turned red up +20 and blue down +20 (green at 0) and to me, this seems to give the best results (ymmv).

Use the digital ice features!!! They are simply amazing. The dust and scratch removal is phenomenal. The grain removal is also wonderful - and it keeps the picture sharp much more so than using a software filter like those found in Photoshop. Personally, I set the Digital ROC (color restoration and correction) to 0 because it is too unpredictable.

Lastly, use a bright, high quality LCD monitor! You would be amazed at the difference this can make when doing color matching, especially on dark pictures. I was astonished to see the difference.

When you take the above into consideration, this scanner is superb. Plan on spending a few hours getting your settings just right, but after that, sit back and enjoy. I've done 8x10 prints of my slides (scanned at 2000 dpi) that are just beautiful. It is near impossible to match the luminance and beauty of a projected slide, but the Coolscan 5000 does a darn good job.

3Good scanner but be aware
By B. America
I've been doing this for some time and have Nikon gear top to bottom. I have the slide feeder and the negative adapter that lets you feed full strips into it. Both work well 90% of the time. I get mis-feeds on the slides from time to time. You will get a bluish hue on your negatives. I have tried several films and they all yield the same problem. Expect to take some time in Photoshop to correct this problem. I am taking the advice of a poster to alter my color settings to compensate. Here is the biggest issue with this scanner. PROPERLY exposed slides scan dark. This is with Fuji 50/100/400 and Kodak. This is a known issue and you will see dozens of posts all over about this problem. Flat and dark scans that need to have the analog gain pumped up to compensate. This throws off GEM and ROC and makes the software unusable. It also washes out detail and increases grain. I contacted Nikon and they stated that Fuji has a 4th layer of emulsion that impedes scans. This is not true for slides, there is no 4th layer. End conclusion, there is a problem with the scanner design. Nikon has failed to give a reason why this is occurring other then to point the finger at someone else. If it was just my problem, I would say it was something on my end, but there are dozens of people stating the same thing on many different photo boards.ROC and GEM are "OK". I would scan clean unless there is an obvious problem with the neg/pos that needs to be addressed. Any time you alter grain or the physical layer of the film you are altering original quality. See what you have first before changing setting across the board. If you have any questions about this, my AOL-AIM is above as my Amazon username. This would include Nikon if the finally have a reason WHY there are issues. Overall, it's a good scanner. I would buy it again, but at least I would know what to expect and not expect it all as advertised.
