Fantastic and Comfortable Hammock!

I just got back from a week of camping in Panama where I used this hammock for the first time and I loved it. Not only was it super comfortable but it was easy to hang up and easy to use the mosquito net. This was my first time sleeping in a hammock and I was amazed at how well I slept. During the day when I just wanted to hang out in the hammock I used the green side and then at night I used the side with the mosquito net. It worked wonderfully.The only thing that I would maybe caution others about is that when you are laying in the hammock and not using the mosquito net, unzip the net from the hammock so it doesn't put a lot of strain on the zipper. I tore a little tiny hole at the end of the zipper because I didn't unzip the hammock and because I was sitting putting all my weight on the zipper. It is a really fantastic hammock though and I really feel that this wouldn't have happened if I had not sat on the unzipped zipper.

Sleep like a Baby

This is a very good hammock. My favorite feature is the pocket on the inside of the mesh canopy to hold light items like a headlamp or a watch. The stuff pouch by design hangs on the outside once you're zipped inside, so the inside pocket is nice. The ropes are adequately long. I have an identical hammock but with a no-see-um net (rather than the mosquito net this one has), which features a tighter weave on the canopy, but I've found this one to be adequate for keeping bugs out.The whole thing will fit inside of a gallon-sized ziploc bag if you want to keep it dry.I'm 5'8", 140 lbs., and find this hammock to be very roomy and solid feeling--definitely get the sense it could support a much bigger person.

Good looks and lots of capacity

This unit is very good looking when assembled and loaded. Although it's fairly sturdy, I added small corner brackets I found at a local hardware store to discreetly anchor each of the vertical shelf supports directly to the wall where they will be hidden by DVDs once loaded up. Assembly was not too hard, except for trying to nail on the 3-piece cardboard backing, which was tricky because of the thin areas involved and the tendency of the cardboard to move as you worked on it. I think there could be some improvement in that part of their design. I got the cherry finish, which looks great. Note that you cannot fill the entire unit with only DVDs - you will have at least one line of shelves that will only hold CDs, as that shelf will be too short for DVDs, but the unit does hold what they claim (even a few more). The manufacturer, Prepac, always ships units direct from the factory, so it really doesn't matter who you order it from, just go for the lowest price. Warning: the box is extremely big & heavy and it helps to have 2 people to carry it. But it was packed well to prevent shipping damage. Shipment arrived less than a week after I ordered it. I did not see anything this nice in local stores, so online shopping wins out here.

Flawed directions lead to poor result

I carefully researched my purchase for media storage and came up with this unit. The product is what I expected, and seemingly a good value. I like the oak finish and the fact that it leans back slightly and does come with a tether to the wall (zip tie and a hook). Also has metal pins to easily position the shelves, with the shelves having channels built in the bottom to accept the pins. Because it is triple-wide, it easily housed my DVD collection with room to spare.My problem with this product is that the directions are fatally flawed. The assembly directions were not "step by step" but pictorial only. In following the pictures, I was more concerned with matching the parts to the picture. The sides of the walls are particle board and in order to save money, they only laminated one of the two sides. I matched the walls to the picture provided in the directions and I was able to attach the top and bottom.The next step of the assembly was to attach the backing. The directions called for standing the unit up to nail the backing on. After struggling with this for some time, I was able to drive at least a dozen nails in, but the backing wasn't straight. Fortunately, after I laid the unit down again, it was much easier to drive the rest of the nails (about two dozen more).Much to my horror, when I stood the unit upright to admire my work, I noticed facing me the sides of three of the four walls showing the particle board and not the oak laminate. I still need to go to a home improvement store to see if I can purchase laminate strips to cover the exposed particle board.There are two errors in the poorly written assembly intructions: 1) Make sure the laminate side of the walls are facing forward when you attach the top and bottom and 2) leave the unit lying flat on the ground when you attach the backing. If I had done this, assembly would have been much easier and I would have been much happier with the finished product. As I had already driven a dozen nails flush, I would have ruined the backing had I tried to remove it. If these directions were corrected, I would have given the product four to five stars. Hope I am able to spare someone else some aggravation.

Better than what I expected

I received this unit today and I am extremely satisfied. Shipping was fast (about a week), the unit was well packed with very little packaging materials to discard, and you can't beat the price for the quality of this unit.I was expecting to receive the typical piece of furniture you would purchase in a department store, made of particle board. To my surprise this was not that type of product. Granted, it's not made out of "real" wood, but it is a much higher quality product than the average DIY type unit. I ordered the cherry/black unit and it looks very sharp.Assembly was a breeze and went fairly quick, about 30 minutes. That doesn't include placing the shelves or filling the unit. Depending on your collection, that time will obviously vary. Any layperson should be able to assemble this unit with ease. The cardboard backing does come in 3 pieces and that's a good thing. It makes it easier to nail onto the middle columns, whereas with one piece you would have to guess where they are.I did have a couple of issues. The instruction sheet is glued to the inside of the box the unit is shipped in. I don't understand why they didn't just fold it up and place it in the plastic bag with the hardware. The instruction sheet is 2 sided so I had to remove it in order to read the back. When I took the sheet off it shredded because of the glue. Also, some of the shelves had glue and plastic from the packaging materials (stuck from the glue) on them. Some of it I was unable to remove, but luckily it was only on the edges and the shelves are laminated on all ends so I was able to just flip them around. Not major issues but the issue with the instructions could cause a headache for anyone that has not assembled DIY furniture before. For that reason I took away a star.Overall this is a fantastic unit that looks great, is reasonably priced, sturdy, and fits a lot of DVDs. I will be ordering another unit as my movie collection continues to grow.

The knife is still as good as new and has traveled all over the world. Just remember to take it off the belt before airport check-in.Replaced scissor spring once (easy fix).Thermometer keeps breaking internally. Other than that - great piece of kit - but what is that hook for really?

Travel Companion and a True Champion

I tried to edit/update a previous review about the Victorinox Swiss Champ model, but Amazon would not let me, so I am re-submitting my edited review here under a new product heading (same brand and model, just different colour side scales).My trusty old Swiss Champ has served me reliably for 3 decades now. It has literally been around the world with me, from steamy equatorial jungles to the freezing far north. I find that I have some use for it almost daily. The tools, though mini versions, are for the most part practical and functional, and they are beautifully compacted into a 3 1/2" package x 1" package.The most frequently used tools for me are the SCISSORS, great for anything from paper trimming to personal grooming, like fingernails, the TWEEZERS are surprisingly precise and useful, and the LARGE SCREWDRIVER/bottle opener which I use more for prying and scraping than actual screwdriving.The tiny combination PLIERS/WIRE CUTTERS would seem to be of limited use because they are so small, but they are engineered with such precise tolerances that they make excellent, hardy tweezers or forceps also. They are handy for gripping small things, bending metal with leverage, holding objects close to a flame, and untying those impossible little knots.One of the best functioning tools IMO is the little SAW! It has a very aggressive tooth pattern, and rips through wood and tree branches better than some full-size hand saws. No exaggeration, I've gone head to head against a conventional full size handsaw and won, sawing through hockey sticks at the rink.The LARGE CLIP POINT KNIFE BLADE and the SMALL CLIP POINT KNIFE BLADE come with an amazing proprietary scalpel-sharp factory sharpening. I have used these blades for literally a million functions through the years... mechanical repair, crafts, fishing, surgery, woodworking, dining/cooking, signaling, trapping, rope handling, sewing, leather working, package opening, etc, etc. not to mention as a mirror, heliograph, eating utensil, shaving razor, and fire striker.I've never used the FISH SCALER for actual fish yet, but it also has a handy metric/english RULER on it, and, I have often used the little HOOK DISGORGER prongs on the end as a 2 tined fork!The little MAGNIFYING GLASS is really quite powerful (and replaces my redundant set of separate field lenses). I have used it effectively to start fires when other methods were not available.The MINI PEN comes in handy when you have no other writing instrument available and it works decently despite it's tiny size. Pen refills are inexpensive. The ballpoint end is useful also as a non-sharp stylus for pushing reset buttons and setting certain clocks with recessed buttons.The LEATHER AWL is actually very good as a sort hole drill for almost any softer than metal material, leather, wood, plastic. Just twisting it back and forth starts it burrowing straight down, making a nice round hole. The small hole in the awl can be threaded to actually stitch up leather.Both the METAL SAW and FILE/RASP are useful for crafting and fabrication. They work well. I have literally sawn off a firearm barrel with the metal saw. I use the file to sharpen blades, carve and shape things I'm fabricating, and even to file my toenails.The CORKSCREW is handy and works surprisingly well! I've become a very popular person around campsites or on the ski slopes on more than one occasion because of this corkscrew. More importantly, the corkscrew stores the little MICRO-SCREWDRIVER in it's spiral whorls useful for eyeglasses and small electronic devices like watches. There is even a small but very useful STRAIGHT PIN hidden in the scales behind the corkscrew, useful for splinter removal, can be magnetized to make a float compass, or in a pinch, bent into a fish hook.The CAN OPENER is functional, but honestly, you'll get repetitive motion injury trying to open a single can with this design. But when you're hungry, who cares. Right?The PHILLIPS SCREWDRIVER although only in one (small) size seems to work well for a great range of screws. If a screw is much larger, one can improvise and use one of the (many) standard head screwdrivers in the Phillips slot.The plastic TOOTHPICK is probably the one practically useless tool on the whole Swiss Champ. It's thin and probably unsanitary to use repeatedly.I don't often use the strange looking HOOK thingy which I'm told is used to carry packages tied with string in Europe. I've used it to tighten boot laces.The mini-CHISEL works very well. It doesn't lock, which is very dangerous when you apply pressure. But if you work very carefully, I have chiseled out indentations, key holes, drainage channels, and an initial or two with it.To mention a few minor shortcomings of the Swiss Champ knife, my main complaint would be, ironically, with the knife blades. I would merely wish that the MAIN BLADE was locking, a feature that Wenger the other official Swiss Army knife maker now acquired by Victorinox incorporated in their design but not Victorinox. Also, the blades are just a tad bit tricky to deploy if you have big fingers or if you just trimmed your fingernails, so I wish it had a raised thumb knob or hole to ease opening. Finally, I think that having the two clip point blades is redundant. I wish that one of the blades (perhaps the large one) could be replaced with a blunt, serrated or semi-serrated sheep's foot blade (practical for quick rope cutting or rescue applications) or one with a hook-design strap cutter.I wish the LARGE SCREWDRIVER/bottle opener was locking also as it tends to close on you when you are applying pressure to a screw or abusing it to pry something.Victorinox has made even higher model upgrade Swiss knives (loaded with even more tools, LED lights, USB thumb drives, clocks, compass, and changeable bits) but I don't think they were vast practical improvements over the Swiss Champ. The interchangeable screwdriver bits are neat, but usually require separate carrying of the spare tips. Most of newest improvements involve modifications to the exterior scales. I personally don't prefer to mix electronic devices that use expendable batteries with my hand tools due to the ruggedness I require of tools (like hammering and prying) thereby increasing the chance of breakage of the electronics.My final suggestion for a nice improvement for the Swiss Champ is that the plain smooth scales be modified as a practical grip and/or an additional resource also. Like, make the scales out of hardened checkered rubber for better grip, or some grippy knurled plastic. And emboss, engrave or cast some brief practical information on the scales, like the International Morse Alphabet. There seems to still be ample unused portions of the scales, so why not utilize them to store a few more useful items like small flints, ferro-cerium rod, or an eyed sewing needle.There are a couple of multi-tools out there that I recommend in addition to the Swiss Champ for enhanced, higher-tech tool qualities, but the Swiss Champ remains a durable, compact and useful workhorse that continues to serve me well. It has literally saved my life a few times. I am not materialistic, but I would call my Swiss Champ one of my most valued possessions for sentimental reasons.

Finally! An adjustable wrench that WORKS!

Have you ever tried to use a regular adjustable wrench? You know - the kind with the little swirl under the jaws you try and try to rotate to get a good grip on a bolt - only to have the jaws loosen up just as you try to turn the bolt or nut?
