Product Description

From Italy comes the celebrated Pasquini Livia 90 Semiautomatic espresso & cappuccino machine.  Designed for home, office, or small restaurant use, it employs sturdy commercial components from a world famous professional espresso machine line.  The Pasquini Livia 90 Semiautomatic espresso machine sets the standard for what is possible from a home espresso machine.  This is the true connoisseur's espresso machine, and is a lifetime investment for the espresso aficionado. Jam packed with commercial grade features and parts, the Pasquini Livia is a true heat exchanger espresso machine, which means the boiler is used for steaming on demand, and espresso water is drawn straight from the built in reservoir - it gets flash heated as it passes through a piping system inside the boiler.  With the Livia 90, producing espresso shot after espresso shot, and steaming instantly for large parties is never a problem. Brewing espresso & frothing milk at the same time is no problem for the Livia!  This is an absolute necessity for any espresso machine used for entertaining or in a semi-commercial environment.  This saves a lot of time and eliminates the need for you to wait for the boiler to ""recover"" between espresso brewing and milk heating functions (common on all single boiler machines).  The dual heat exchanger allows for both functions to take place simultaneously. The Livia 90 Semiautomatic is just like the Livia 90 Automatic, but IT DOES NOT have the automatic one-touch brewing system like the automatic version.

4Livia 90 Automatic is good value for money
By R. D. Stephenson
I bought the Pasquini Livia 90 Automatic in 2002. The version I needed was for 240 volt operation so it was shipped from Italy. At the same time I also ordered the grinder and 2 drawer base. I had spent a lot of time reading reviews and comments on several sites for a wide variety of machines. The number of reviews which compared their brands to the Pasquini Livia machines was what really sold me on the Pasquini. You don't compare your machine(s) to lesser machines, you compare against the best. If so many various reviews used Pasquini as a target then it must be well worth a look. I am glad I did, it is an extremely well built and reliable machine.I have mine on for 12 to 16 hours per day and make and serve quite a lot of espresso and cappuccino to family and friends. The Pasquini is also used for tea, cocoa, instant soups and anything else that calls for the use of near boiling water. The machine gets it right every time, any variation in quality is due to the coffee, the milk or the user. It took a bit of time to learn how to use it effectively but it has never disappointed me.The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the choice of a plastic water storage reservoir in the machine. I think that a stainless steel tank would be a better choice due to the effects of age, heat and vibrations which caused some cracks in my original tank. Pasquini replaced it free of charge even though the machine was out of warranty! A stainless steel tank would add to the noise level though and it already is not a stealthy machine. The pump is by no means quiet, but it certainly does the job and I'm sure will continue to do so for years to come.I recommend Pasquini without reservation based on the machine and the service I have had when dealing directly with the company on several occasions.

5A High Quality Machine for High Quality Coffee...STILL
By dcinDC
This is a serious coffee machine. It's "commercial quality" so it's heavy (almost 50lbs) and very well built. It takes up some counter space (mostly depth) but it looks elegant and is easy to keep clean. The portafilter (handle with basket for coffee) is very sturdy and fits snugly. It has a useful ready gauge and simple buttons (as noted above) for on-off and start-stop.Now the important stuff: It makes great coffee consistently. I moved up to this machine from a Braun pump espresso machine. This one has better pressure and temperature. I used to brag about my Braun machine because it was inexpensive and made consistently good esperesso. The first shots I pulled from this machine made me realize that I didn't realize what I was missing. If you know how to make espresso, this machine lets you pull easy, consistent, and quality shots.Another great feature of this machine is the continuous steam and hot (very hot!) water outlet. If you've ever had trouble steaming milk on machine you'll be impressed and maybe even surprised at how well this works. The machine also recovers well and quickly after you pull shots or use the steam wand. The tanks is removable and holds a lot of water. It's easy to fill in place as well. You can leave this machine on all day if you like (it's designed to work that way) and you might want to if you're like me and drink too much coffee. The reason is that it can take a little while to warm up if it's been off for a while. That's probably the only thing I'm not fond of with this machine. First thing in the morning it can take a while to warm up (5-10 mins). This makes sense given the size and build of the machine. It simply takes time to warm up to the proper brewing temperature. However, I had gotten used to a machine that only takes a couple of minutes. So, my new morning routine includes going down to turn on the machine and coming down after my shower for my great coffee! If you've never had a pump machine before, you may need some practice, but I think this is a good machine to learn on (due to its consistency). Just remember to follow the instructions (especially not to overfill the filter) and adjust either the grind of your coffee or the pressure of your tamping to get the desired results.I hope this is helpful to you if you're considering this machine. I'd say it does well or better to other machines in this price range. It's a definite step up in quality and build from the machine's you'll find in the $500-1000 price range. It's a complete improvement in machine and coffee from pretty much any machine under $500.One last comment, Pasquini has been excellent and very responsive to questions. I'm very pleased to see them here on Amazon.Good luck with your quest for great coffee...I found it with this machine!UPDATE: I originally posted this review in 2005. Almost 4 years later, I'm still very happy with my Pasquini and find it makes consistently good coffee. My only comment after all these years is that a little maintenance on this machine goes a long way. Regular backflushing and occasional cleaning keep it working great. We've had to replace one gasket that Pasquini was very kind in sending us. So, overall I would still highly recommend this machine. Hope this is helpful!

5the espresso tastes great
By C. Lee
I have just received the machine from Illy USA at a very attractive price (considering I order the Illy beans regularly anyway, their price on this machine with a one-year coffee subscription is a excellent indeed). I have been needing to replace an espresso machine every 2 years ca., I figured, I might as well try out one considered to be in the light duty commercial catagory. After the first few cups I learned the proper pressure on the temper and out came from the machine coffee that any Italian coffee bar would be proud of. It could be my imagination, but, the brew from this mahcine seems to be stronger (more bitter) then the Saeco, Krup, and Solis ($300 range machines). Although the crema is not as much when compared with the others I used before. Also, being able to leave the machine on all day long means instant hot water/steam which is very nice for a small office environment. I used the hot water mainly to heat the cups. It does however, take about 7 minutes to reach its operating condition (to bring a mass of water to the proper temperature and pressure in the internal boiler) when first turned on every morning and the noise from the pump that transfers water from the holding tank to the boiler is quite loud. There are some minor flaws that I could see so far. The fit and finish on the machine is fine but not perfect. There are corners on the rear that could be finished a little better and some spot welding marks should be polished out. The water tray (the one below the group head to hold liquid that drips off after a brew) is very small and needs to be emptied quite often. This is a new machine; thus, I cannot report its long term performance and endurance. My past experience with the $300 range machine is that they last about 2 to 3 years before something expensive to fix breaks. I shall see if this seemingly robust machine will last.So far, I am very satisfied with it.

5High Quality Machine for High Quality Coffee
By dcinDC
Just one quick note: The photo above (at the time I wrote this review) is of the automatic model and not the semi-automatic model. This review is for the semi-auto model. For those who don't know, the auto model allows you to push a button and the machine will start and stop the flow of water on its own (single or double). Semi-auto means you need to turn the flow of water on and off yourself. There are also super-auto machines that grind and tamp the beans as well. The Review: This is a serious coffee machine. 5Overall a very good machine
By Danilo Giulianelli
I bought the Livia 90 semi-automatic in 2003 and I was always pleased with the consistent results. Very good espresso with crema and excellent cappuccinos, not to mention the ability to brew a tea in less than 5 seconds. The machine is very sturdy and beautifully constructed with stainless steel and a 1.5 liter brass boiler chamber. The machine takes 7 minutes to warm up because it's all metal with only the porta-filter handle, the switches, and a couple of knobs made of plastic. For the first couple of years I used the machine with ground coffee, but then I switched to pods because it's less messy and I consistently get the crema every time I use the machine. Also this gave me the chance to try out several brands of coffee ( I believe I tried more than twenty varieties by buying pod samplers available on the web). I'm now mostly settled on Illy medium roast ESE pods, Starbucks, and Lucaffe Colombia pods. After three years since I had the machine I had a problem with the steam water valve: at least once a day it wouldn't stop heating the machine after reaching the correct pressure, causing the safety valve to release the excess pressure with a very loud noise. I had to return the machine to Pasquini where they replaced the valve and rewired the machine to work properly. After that the machine always worked perfectly and I now turn on the machine early in the morning and I turn it off after dinner at night every day.You need to take care of the maintenance of the machine, starting with cleaning the machine regularly ( I use the PuliCaff powder once a week) in order to get rid of the coffee oils that deposit in the group head and filters, as well as replacing the undercup gasket and the various O-rings at least once a year, or else the rubber will harden and water will leak from the porta-filter. The maintenance intervals vary with the machine usage: I brew about 6 to 8 coffees every day and I found out that cleaning the machine once a week and changing the gaskets once a year is a good compromise. After seven years of use the machine still works great and looks like new. I love the espressos I can make with this machine, but now the problem is that I cannot drink regular brewed coffee anymore when I go out to a restaurant that doesn't serve espresso coffee.

5Not a single regret after a year!
By Sam Overt
I have waited a year before writing a review because I think that is a reasonable amount of time to wait to give the review credibility. I have to say my husband and I love love love this machine. It looks fabulous and makes the best coffee. It's easy to clean, quick to recover in between coffees so you can make lots of coffees one after the other. Milk steamer is easy to use and great to make the kids hot chocolate. Also the hot water dispenser is great 'cos I love to make tea as well. The water tank is very large and we don't have to fill it often but even then it's easy to do - we fill it in place with a couple of big plastic jugs. It's great - we love it and don't have single complaint. We got it for each other last Christmas '07 and have a lot more friends now! I don't hesitate in recommending it to you and one final thing - it really takes no time to warm up - whats five minutes to wait for great coffee! The line at Starbucks would take longer and your coffee will taste a lot better!

5Great pump
By Ridgeback
Due to recent construction work outside my yard, my porch was flooding. Working on long-term solution, but put this in a PVC drain underground and works like a charm until I get it all figured out. I could go into more details, but I got this to replace one from Lowes. This thing is about 100x better for the same amount of money. Heavy duty and works awesome. When I say heavy duty, it's like night and day compared to what you will get at the big construction stores. The biggest thing is to make sure you have the proper type of discharge. If you have a lot of volume to move (as I did) and put 1 1/2 PVC out, this thing will pump some water. My discharge is mostly horizontal (about 30 feet), with just a 2 foot rise out of the ground.

  • Optimized Pivoting Blade (OPB) System
  • Super Channel Technology
  • Anatomical Foot Pocket
  • Foot Pocket Adds Thrust with Less Fatigue
  • Tecralene and Thermoplastic Rubber

Product Description

The Mares Volo scuba fin is a gigantic leap forward in fin technology. This fin is so revolutionary; it is covered by 8 different patents. The Volo uses Mares Optimized Pivoting Blade system (OPB); the Volo is 30% more efficient than traditional fins. The OPB allows the blade to maintain an optimal angle throughout the kicking cycle, whereas traditional fins achieve this only during a small portion of the cycle, OPB produces a constant thrust, which minimizes fatigue and produces fluid movement through the water. The Mares Volo also allows you to use alternate kick strokes not possible with splits fins. The Volo Super-channel is designed for the diver who wants the perfect blend of power and efficiency in one fin. The new blade design with a large central Super-channel and two traditional lateral channels provide excellent thrust while maintaining hi-efficiency and minimizing leg fatigue. The blade is constructed of Tecralene and Thermoplastic rubber for extended durability. The ergonomically designed foot pocket delivers maximum power and evenly distributes pressure over the foot to minimize fatigue. The foot pocket interior features internal ribbing that improves fit, eliminates foot suction and prevents foot pocket flexing, while transmitting more power to the blade.Volo uses Mares patented design ABS Plus Buckles (Adjustable Binding System). It only takes one quick movement to easily open or close these buckles, even when wearing thick neoprene gloves

5Awesome fins
By m.m
These are really great fins! Lightweight, easy to clasp and unclasp (though sometimes my fiancee has trouble with hers while wearing diving gloves), and really a smooth fin in the water. Very smart design from Mares with the "hinge" in the blade - makes a big difference in the upstroke/downstroke resistance! And best of all - they just barely fit into the middle size of my luggage set! So lightweight that I can fit a set of fins, boots, gloves, masks, snorkels, and ankleweights for both myself and my fiancee and still have about 18 lbs of available weight before the standard checked luggage limit.

I tried this unit out after using several StarTech NETRS2321E 1 Port RS-232/422/485 Serial over IP Ethernet Device Server. The NETRS2321E works fine, but after reading on StarTech's website, I realized this one has several extra features such as: 1. Lifetime warranty (compared to two years for NETRS2321E) 2. Upgradable firmware 3. Ether Link Manager software (which is great!)I will definitely be switching to this unit as our primary Serial to IP servers. They have worked flawless in the field for several months with no hangups or need for reboots. As a bonus, you can use this device on your laptop/desktop as a DB9 COMM if you PC doesn't have one or if you need to add another COMM. Just install the Ether Link Manager software, connect the device via CAT5 cable to your PC and activate the device as your COMM port via the Ether Link Manager. The drivers from the StarTech website worked fine on my Windows 7 x64 bit laptop (didn't try the ones on the CD).

3It's OK, but lacks an access password
By rjd444
When I told Star Tech I couldn't use the NETRS232E1 model because it didn't have an access password, they recommended this one instead. So this one has a 'user' password that allows users to configure the serial port but not the whole box. But it DOESN'T have an access password.I purchased this one used from simparts, and the unit is basically in new condition. It didn't come with the driver CD, but I was able to download it from the Star Tech web site.
