5Nice Quality
By J. Schrank
Very heavy duty craftsman-styled door bell button. Good spring return as well. A bit spendy, but worth it if you need that quality finishing touch at the front door of your bungalow...

2Plastic that breaks
By Hoping for Coffee
Gaggia, Italian for "plastic that breaks." We've had this grinder for a few months and a piece of plastic broke off of the doser gear. Now it is extremely difficult to get the ground coffee out of the machine. We also have one of the Gaggia Espresso machines -- the steamer wand broke recently, also plastic. Otherwise, both machines have done a good job.

Well made bin. The top must be lifted which is a bit of a drawback for outdoor parties but it could just be left off. This will be attractive at a party and better looking than a trash can.

4Best espresso grinder under $200
By N. Caine
Real espresso is a combination of freshly roasted beans properly ground and pressed at high pressure using 200 degree water. When you do that, you produce something so delicious it'll blow your mind if you love coffee. When purchasing equipment to do this at home, the most crucial of these three factors is in many ways the grinder. You need to be producing a very exact, very fine grind that doesn't include larger chunks (it'll mess up the pressure, because water will "channel" here) nor coffee dust (which will end up in your cup). And you kinda' want a grinder that won't break. There are surprisingly few grinders sold that meet these requirements. Some espresso drinkers try to get by with one of the only two grinders under $150 which can sometimes manage this: the Solis Maestro and the Capresso Infinity. Whether you succeed will depend a lot on whether you got lucky, and you got one that happens to be put together well. Both make use of plastic parts which will fail over time. Some people buy the Solis Maestro Plus for $150 -- it's heavier than the Maestro, but otherwise no better: you're really wasting your money. The next step up is the Gaggia MDF. It usually sells for around $200, and the Amazon price tends to fluctuate, actually coming in under $200 some of the time with promotions, which makes it a wonderful bargain, though that may be hard to fathom for folks used to a $20 whirly blade grinder. The MDF used semi-commercial grade steel burrs in a semi-commercial (and hence longer lasting) burr set. It will produce the even, fine grind necessary for espresso, and when paired with another Gaggia, or a Solis or Rancilio or FrancisFrancis machine, you're ready to be a home barista and blow the minds of your friends. If you've got a bit more money, I'd recommend the Rancilio Rocky, which typically sells for $280: it's quieter and more rugged, but uses the identical burrs to the MDF. Up from there would be the Mazzer Mini for around $360, which should last you 20 years if not a lifetime. Most people who get into home espresso eventually end up with a Mazzer someday, and you could save yourself some time and money by just starting out with one. But the MDF is probably the best bargain going for being a true home barista. If you're terribly on a budget, Vaneli's Maximo is inferior but useable, and sometimes sells here for low prices.

4Consistently good grind, but takes experience to dose
By Wayne
I've had this grinder for over two decades and it has performed well. When I first got my machine, I wondered which setting number would be good for cappuccino, or any particular grind. The manual said that since coffee can vary from variety to variety, or even from one roast to another, it's a matter of adjusting to each batch of beans. Perhaps with 34 settings, people have found that to be helpful, but I have found my beans to be consistent enough that adjustments are necessary for type of coffee, but can be left alone for a particular type of coffee and a particular variety of beans from a source. At the time I got the machine, I got my beans from Peet's back when they had five stores and no other distribution channels. Although they are a larger chain now, they are still small enough that roasting can be well controlled, and they can still buy beans from a single source for a variety to meet the needs of the chain. For beans from other sources, where roasting is done at a variety of locations, or from beans from differing sources, you might need to pay more attention to adjustments.A much bigger issue that affects strength and everything else is the dosing. From reading the other reviews, it does not seem to have changed since I got my unit. The top of the unit can be filled with beans, and the part over the dispensing area will fill up with a remarkably consistent grind. That round area is divided into six sections, like a wheel with spokes. Five of the sections get filled with grounds. One section is empty, and is above the dispenser. Each time the lever is pulled, the wheel rotates one position clockwise, and one section gets dispensed through the empty section. In theory, if the unit were full, the amount of coffee in each section would be consistent. Chances are that in real life, you would not want to fill the unit up for home use, since the grounds would not be fresh by the time you use them. If you grind just enough for a few cups, then the coffee will not end up in the compartments evenly, and dosing by counting pulls will not work. If you lift the lower lid, you can see where the coffee is, and you will likely see a small mound in the back and partly filled areas toward the front if you grind smaller amounts. You could redistribute things with a brush, but even that way, some areas would end up more compacted than others. Or you could merely gain the experience to know how much was dispensed compared to how much you need, and pull the handle accordingly. Another option is to gring with the lower lid off. As you watch grinds fall into the compartment, you can rotate as each compartment gets filled, dispensing as you go along. Then you can become consistent once you develop a good eye for it.Whether you want to consider the dispenser poorly designed is a matter of perspective. If you believe that this unit was designed to grind beans for two cups of coffee, then it would be a fair conclusion. If you believe that this unit was designed for people who prepare 6-12 cups an hour, you might think that it's just fine. If you believe that it was designed for a higher level of fairly constant use, you would probably not be disappointed. But since this unit is most likely for home users, it's hard to claim that the dispenser is ideally suited to the task.Experience will let you know how high the grounds are supposed to be when you put them in the filter basket, and it's not going to take you long to learn. While this unit is not fool proof, chances are that you are not a fool, so things will work out.For me, the bottom line is that once you know the correct grind setting for your beans, the unit is more "set it and forget it" than what the instructions said, at least with consistent beans, but the dispenser is a lot less "set it and forget it" than what the literature implies.Personally, I prefer a unit that takes the guess work out of getting the grinds to be the right consistency, since it's easy to get the amount dispensed right by eyeballing it. This unit does very well in that respect.I use this in conjunction with a Gaggia Coffee (now known as Gaggia Classic; the new Gaggia Coffee is a different machine) and the two make a good pair. Learning how much coffee to dispense is a minor part, compared to learning how long to hold the switch on the espresso machine, or how to froth milk perfectly, but ultimately, it boils down to knowing how to make a proper espresso. If you can tell when to stop the water based on the color of the coffee coming out, then a bit more or less from the grinder will affect how full the cup gets rather than the taste of your brew. You can't automate a perfect espresso, but you can use the correct tools to allow you to make one with experience.

4Great size, good quality, nice price, takes a bit of work to clean though...
By C. Jesse Imbach
The Gaggia MDF fills a small, yet demanding space between the cheap and typically terrible $30-$100 burr grinders and the $500 Mazzer Mini. It's only real competition is the Rancilio Rocky and the Innova (if you can find one). The main complaint about the MDF is that it is not continuously adjustable, which is true, however I have been able to position mine easily in the middle of two settings. This effectivly doubles the available settings and--with variations in tamp pressure--allows me to get really decent shots fairly consistantly.I use this machine with my vintage swiss Elespresso machine (a Solis SL70 in disguise) and am consistantly pleased. It compares favorably with a Mazzer Mini on most days (I've got one of those too--as well as a La San Marco/Rossi) and for the price is a great buy. If you see a Rocky for the same price, that might be a better choice because of the larger number of settings, but only just. For those not wanting to drop at least $300 on a grinder, this is a great choice. It fixes all the major faults of the Solis at only a few dollars more and is solidly made, reasonably consistant, and compact enough to sit next to most home machines on the market. Now if only it were a bit easier to clean...

4Lots of Fun!
By Loving Nana
Overall, I like this set a lot. My granddaughter LOVES it! Things I like about it are: bright "tropical" colors, the fact that it plays music and lights up, molded in place settings on the table, cloth curtains, cabana top, and banner, barbeque grill with the string attached spatula, wheels, and the opening grill top, and the fact that the 2 chairs swivel.Things I didn't like about it: only 2 chairs, but there are 4 place settings at the table, the bench seat doesn't open, and it doesn't play enough of any one song (only about 10 seconds or so). I have the Grand Piano made for the townhouse and that one plays nice long songs(long for dollhouse sets). These are why I only gave it 4 stars overall. That said and done, my granddaughter doesn't seem to mind. These are my complaints, not hers. She continues to play with this set long after receiving it. That's what I call a great buy. Way to go Fisher Price!

5A true classic
By Wayne
When I got my Gaggia more than several decades ago, it was not yet called a Classic. It was called a Coffee Gaggia. About 20 years ago, some minor changes were made, and the unit was renamed Classic. The new "Coffee Gaggia" is not the same as this machine. This machine has a robust build, and high quality parts. Its tank heats the water quickly, and to a proper temperature, and the pump is powerful enough to do the job properly. I would strongly recommend using filtered water, especially with a low mineral content, so that deposits do not build up in the tank.My version has an all metal frothing wand, which does as good a job as the skills of the operator will allow for. The newer versions have a "turbo frother," and an optional milk frother that will take the guess work out of frothing and place foamed milk directly into the cup. I can't comment on these newer features, but perhaps they will allow a better job to be done by those with less experience. The newer models are brushed stainless, while the original models had an appliance enamel finish. Since the old finish allowed water to penetrate under any scratches or imperfections in the finish, this was a particular problem near the portafilter holder and underneath the drip tray. The new version should retain its finish far longer, although the old one still does not show any wear in places that are visible with the machine assembled.Minor differences are that the new machine has a more robust looking steam knob that was moved to the side, and the thermostat light, which indicated that the unit was heating, has been replaced with a "ready" light that is integrated into the coffee switch and signals the opposite. In the time that I've had my machine, I've had only minor problems with it. My steam thermostat needed to be replaced once, and the light on my power switch stopped working. These were larger issues before the Internet made it easy to find parts, as these items are hard to find locally. The other problem is that if the unit is not used for extended periods, and the tank is allowed to dry out completely, and the water used was hard, then some parts are subject to clogging. The troubleshooting steps in the manual are not helpful for these sorts of problems. The machine can be disassembled for cleaning by somebody who is mechanically inclined, but unless you feel comfortable with appliance repair, you are better off avoiding the situation by using filtered water, and/or descaling regularly, especially before any long term storage. The other "parts" issue is that the gasket for the filter basket should be considered a consumable part, and should be sold by every dealer as an accessory, rather than just by repair facilities. The machine really should have included an extra one since this is the only part that will definitely wear out with regular use. It might take a few years or longer, and is easy to replace, but it will wear out.Overall, this is a well built machine that should last you many decades. Although it seemed expensive when I bought it, it has averaged out to about 6 cents a day to own it, which was well worth the price, and I'll probably get another few decades out of it.If you have used cheaper espresso makers, you will appreciate the robustness and quality of this unit. Features such as the three way solenoid controlled valve might be transparent to the user, but the lack of them become clear when you use a cheaper machine. This one just keeps going and going.

5Tips for the newbie espresso snobs; Gaggia vs. Breville
By wjs1820
I bougt the $200 breville ESP8XL when I started my bean habit and was considerably satisfied. With the breville I learned just how tempermentle espresso can be. The grind, the tamp pressure (with a twist) as well as the temerature of every item the coffee contacts in the pull will effect the taste of your espresso. (To warm up cups fast, fill them with water and put them in the microwave for a minute and your set.)I learned alot in 2 weeks and now considered my capucchino concoction worthy and much better than chain coffee houses. I use Lavazza preground espresso coffee and love it, its smooth satisfying and has an excellent crema. I'm considering a grinder but with the Lavazza (black can) I'm putting it off for a while.I ordered the Gaggia Classic on impulse due to a sale hoping to improve my pulls with the presumably better machine. Which is better, well the short story is I packed the Breville up for return 2 days later. The Gaggia arived well packed but after setting it up the pump didnt work. Disapointed but not wanting to give up on it. I opened the top easily with a screwdriver and found that the rubber gromet around the pump had loosened from its mount and pulled a wire (with slip on connector) off its termination point. I slid the motor gromet back into place and remedied the connection easily. From there the machine operated perfectly.Gaggia Pro's: Better portafilter. Filter is easier to clean larger in surface area and the used coffee pucks come out easier and much drier. Also the espresso comes out of one hole in the middle and is then seperated into channels that flow into the 2 cups you see in the picture. The Breville has a smaller portafilter that is harder to get in place without looking and has 2 holes in the bottom. Most of the time the majority of the water came out of 1 side catching up at the end of the pull. The plastic turbo frother steams faster, drier and is much easier to clean than the stainless tube provided on the Breville. The milk froth, adheres like paint to the metal tube and has to be scraped off with a knife or a brillo pad. Steam control and overall heat temperature is better on the Gaggia.Breville pro's: easier to fill with water, drip tray is easy to handle. Dont think this doesnt matter. If you want your espresso hot, you need to run water thru the portafilter to heat it up and not lose temp. The excess water goes in the drip tray. You want this to be easy access!!! The gaggia's works fine but the Breville's fits better and is easier to handle. If your considering this machine but are concerned with the cost, get the Breville ESP8XL For $200, it makes a nice espresso but use a quality cofee thats properly ground. If theres no concern go for the Gaggia. I got it here for $400 and feel the extra $$$ was worth it.Update: September 2010My Gaggia is still going strong. Temperature and pump strength have not varried at all. I've paired it with a Rancilio Rocky Burr-Grinder which was well worth the investment. I buy local italian roast coffee for $7.50/lb and make Espresso better than any Starbucks around. I've seen other's indicate that the plastic frother is poorly designed and falls off. I've had no problem with mine but I clean it thorouhly after every use. I admit I don't use it as much as when I first got it but it is always available for a mid afternoon espresso or an after dinner capachino. My only complaint is with the design of the water tank. You can fill it through the top but you will have to take it out at least weekly to clean as the standing water will attract bacteria after a while. Removing the tank requires the disassembly of a few parts. It's a trivial complaint but worth noting, fore if you dont clean the tank you can probably damage the pump.

4Great espresso, poor steaming wand
By Dominika Lepak
For the price, I'd give the espresso making part of this machine 5 stars. The portafilter and brew group are substantial and well-made. I've worked at two espresso shops with commercial machines, and the parts on this moderately priced Gaggia are nearly as heavy and substantial as the big multiple-thousands of dollars machines. I've had the machine for 4 days and have been brewing shots with Starbuck$ pods. The toggle switches are easy to use, the reservoir is easy to fill, and the shots are aromatic and full of crema every time. However, the steaming wand takes a star away from this machine. It does not rotate in every direction like the comparably priced Starbucks machine. This makes it hard to remove a cup full of frothed milk from under the wand without spilling. Also, the plastic frother contraption is silly. Actual frothing capability is pretty good, though the plain metal tips on the commercial machines produced finer microfroth, and were more fine-tuned to the trained barista's hand. Overall, it's a good-looking machine, and I'm satisfied with it for my main purposes - iced lattes and americanos, and straight double shots, all of which do not require use of the steaming attachment. This is a good entry-level machine that will brew you good shots, and look good on your countertop. However, I'm expecting to outgrow it and move up to an Isomac with more refined steaming capability within a few years.

4Big Hummer Boom box is Macho
By Possum-Bread
We all know that boom boxes and stereo components are getting smaller and smaller. It's the magic of miniaturization. But remember the good ol' days when you dragged huge speakers into your dorm room. Back then big speakers meant great sound. The Hummer may not be as big as some of those speakers, but it's styling harkens back to those days. The sound on the Hummer boom box is fantastic and it comes with a sub-woofer.The Hummer box is not really portable. If you're shopping for some small box that'll fit in your backpack, then this isn't for you. But what is really appealing about this box is the unique Hummer styling. It's a big, heavy boom box that's built to last. It even has a rubberized bottom to prevent sliding. The styling is very cool. It resembles the front grill of a Hummer. It's nothing like those petite boxes that look like a Walkman with speakers. It looks great as part of a man's décor, whether in the office or the workshop. And the remote control means you can easily cut the sound when your phone rings - or change the radio station. The price on the Hummer boom box has come down significantly from its original $200. This is a good value if you have a man on your Christmas gift list this year that would appreciate a macho looking boom box. You need to act fast, because I don't think macho is fashionable these days and this box will probably be discontinued soon.

5This monitor is great.
By Brindleby
This was the first, and only, flatscreen monitor I've ever regularly used and it still works great and looks beautiful. The resolution is a little lover than most monitors today, that coupled with 4:3 screen resolution means 720p HD video barely fits on the screen. But the colors are great, and the monitor itself looks beautiful. I've used this monitor for years and never thought of getting a new one until today, now I'm considering just getting another one of these.

5Unique
By D. K.
I bought the earring as a gift for my mother-in-law. I am very happy with the earrings, (and she was as well), but I wish there had been a sticker, card or something identifying the product as 14k gold.

514k Yellow Gold Filigree Design 5 mm Stud Earrings
By Linda J. Quesnell
The earrings are great for a second piercing. The are beautiful whether you are dressed up or going casual. The filigree design work turns peoples heads because it is unusual and best of all the price was fair.

5Beautiful earrings!
By Purse and Shoe Collector
Great product & fast ship. Only wish the box had a 14K tag in it. Nothing says 14K anywhere!

5Timeless
By Sharp Girl
They are classical hoops. I have worn them almost every day for two years. Am I a creature of habit or what? Definitely not a fashion diva. They have held up beautifully to showers, chlorine, ocean water, hairspray, and still shine. The clasps still hold snuggly. Couldn't ask for anything better.

5Rugged and reliable
By Patricia Allard
This light is what you would expect for a product designed to be used by fire fighters - durable and reliable. I first saw the light reviewed in Practical Sailor magazine - LED model is reviewed as the best rechargeable light. You can mount the rugged recharging station (included) in a convenient location, and then have light when you need it. Large handle and switch are designed for use with firefighter gloves, and switch is heavy-duty. Everything about this product is professional quality.

5Great Stands...
By The Sublime Dialectic
I picked up a Sony Bravia Home Theater System recently. I figured I should get stands for the rear speakers, and they are great!!! They do what they are supposed to do and look good in the process. As for person who rated them low because the "fat end" of the speaker wire can not be threaded through the stands, I hope he/she gets them outta the basement because the fat end does not get threaded through the stands. The open wire end does. Threading the wire this way is described in the instructions!!!Anyway, I'm happy with my pair.

4Nice stands
By C. Stuart Mckendrick III
These stands matched the finish of our home theater setup, and more importantly fit onto the speakers. The bases are well weighted. The speaker wire runs through the stand, and there is a finish cap to hide the connection on the back of the speaker. My wishes are few: 1) That the price would have been lower, and 2) that the stands would have been flexible (they are pre-bent).Thanks to Sony for making these. I didn't have to hope that non-specific models elsewhere fit our needs and speakers.
