5Best Commercial Fish Food on the Planet!
By R. Bratt
Tetra Pro Crisps are the single best fish food I have ever worked with in 35 years of keeping fish! Fish eagerly accept this product. There is ZERO waste (leftovers are readily gobbled-up by catfish); no water clouding; phenomenal growth-rates; no foul odors. I actually have a blind angelfish who has lived on this food for 3 years (it's so good that he is able to thrive on the little bit that he does manage to find). I can't say enough good things about this product! Oh, the 3.86 lb bucket represents an incredible value - priced at about 33% of what a comparable amount purchased in the in the 6.35 ounce cans @ retail.

5Better than any pet store.
By Striking
My Arowana goes after these pellets like they were live food.PRO:They don't crumble in the water immediately like cheaper brands. If you have a large fish to feed then this is the best way to go. The pet stores want $10 for only 2-4oz!CON:It does not come in the bag pictured. It is only a clear plastic bag but it does have a zip lock. I transfer some pellets to a smaller container to make feeding more manageable.

Cheapest Pondmaster 02910 Ultra Violet Light Pond Water Clarifier 10watt

Pondmaster 02910 Ultra Violet Light Pond Water Clarifier 10wattBuy Pondmaster 02910 Ultra Violet Light Pond Water Clarifier 10watt

Pondmaster 02910 Ultra Violet Light Pond Water Clarifier 10watt Product Description:

  • Submersible 10-watt ultraviolet pond light for killing algae and bacteria
  • Clarifies and sterilizes ponds up to 1,500 gallons; designed for pumps with up to 700-gph output
  • ¾-inch, barbed intake and outlet for attaching flexible tubing; 18-foot power cord
  • Vortex flow design and slim diameter increases exposure to intense UV rays
  • Submersed or outside-the-pond installation

Product Description

Submersible 10 watt Ultraviolet (UV) Light Pond Water Clarifier for use with pumps up to 700 GPH, in ponds up to 1500 gallons. Kills suspended algae with UV light. Water can be pumped through the UV light and then into a biological filter (sold separately) where debris and dead algae can be trapped and decomposed. When installed correctly, UV lights are very effective at eliminating green water pond problems. This UV light has a 3/4 barbed intake and outlet for flexible tubing and is equipped with an 18 ft power cord. The soft blue halo light rings show that the unit is working. The vortex flow design increases the exposure time of the water with the ultraviolet light and the slim diameter brings more of the water closer to the intense UV rays making the process more efficient. These clarifiers can be installed submersed in the pond or outside the pond. UL listed."

3Works to clear algae, but had trouble installing
By Lucidity
This UV filter works, but there are some strange issues with it. Hopefully my review will help other customers avoid the hassles I went through with this item. The inlet/outlet barbs on this filter are supposedly sized to fit 3/4 inch tubing; however, oddly, the barbs are significantly smaller than they should be, so tubing goes on, hangs loosely, and then falls off if you move the unit around much.In my experience with other pond products with barbs, barbs are designed to hold tubing quite snugly, without requiring the use of clamps (this is especially important if you have to open up the unit every month or so to do the recommended cleanings of the interior light cover, where clamps would be a major pain). There are no threads or any other way of securing tubing to this UV filter. The issue of how to attach tubing to the unit caused a great deal of confusion for me when I first got the product. I took it to several local pond supply stores to see if they could help me figure out if I was doing something wrong. The pond supply folks were as puzzled as I was about why the barbs did not fit standard 3/4 inch tubing. We tried other sized tubing, but nothing fit properly.I emailed the customer support people at Danner Manufacturing (the company that makes these filters). Their staff were entirely unhelpful. Eventually, the best they could manage in response to my request for instructions on how to attach the unit to tubing (and ultimately to my Pondmaster pump/filter unit), was to send me a sketch showing a UV filter attached to a pump (but no instructions or diagrams on how this was actually accomplished). This sketch was supposed to demonstrate that it was theoretically possible to attach the UV filter to other equipment. When I followed up with several emails asking them for details on -how- to attach the tubing, I received a message that they were researching what types of adapters were needed, but then a week went by with no further communication from them despite an additional query from me. At that point, in frustration, I gave up on receiving any kind of customer support. As the algae was continuing to build up in my pond and I was increasingly concerned for my fish, I decided to just try running the UV filter with the tubing loosely attached just to see if that would somehow be good enough. Lo and behold, when the UV filter is running, even if loosely connected to the pump via 3/4 inch tubing, a certain amount of suction occurs, allowing the tubing to stay connected (as long as you don't bump the UV filter or the tubing). What this means is that, if you have a person to help you (holding the pump and any other attached equipment while you hold the UV filter and it's tubing), you can lay all of your equipment into the pond carefully, being sure nothing gets disconnected in the process, and then turn on the pump and UV filter. If everything stays connected, when you turn on the UV filter and pump, everything should stay connected -- as long as you don't have big, heavy fish that like to nudge the tubing or any significant currents where your equipment is located.Personally, I find this to be a tedious process (which will have to be repeated each time I clean the UV light cover and/or my filter), and I don't appreciate that there were no instructions about any of this included with the product. I also did not find Danner Manufacturing to be at all helpful in resolving this issue. However, once I figured it out... the UV filter does do its job wonderfully! The pond is free of algae after about a week of run-time. I just wish I had known how to solve the installation issues and hadn't wasted so much time trying to figure this out.

5Excellent product but easy to underestimate your needs
By Maxwell Johnson
This is the 10 watt Supreme Pondmaster Submersible UV Clarifier, model 29101. When water is circulated through it, the water is exposed to ultraviolet light that is capable of killing both suspended algae and bacteria. I have used several of these units in both marine aquaria (outside the tank) and in my pond (in the water) and they have performed perfectly. The unit contains a tubular UV bulb protected by a slightly larger quartz sleeve. Danner says that the design causes the water to flow through the unit in a circular manner but I have never cut one open to see how that might be accomplished.Build quality is excellent and I have had no problems with leakage of water either into the interior quartz sleeve and UV tube or out onto the floor. It is important to remember that the quartz sleeve will gradually become partially occluded by deposits on the outside surface. For best results, you should disassemble the clarifier periodically (monthly is about right) and remove and clean the sleeve. Disassembly is quick and easy but be careful with both the sleeve and the tube when you do it.The clarifier works well but beware: Danner advertises that the 10-watt model will be adequate for ponds up to 1500 gallons. This is extremely optimistic. If you begin with a pond that is absolutely clean and algae free, the 10-watt model might keep it that way, if used in conjunction with a good filter. However, if you are installing the clarifier to deal with a pre-existing problem, you should probably not count on it working well for ponds over 500 gallons. My pond is 650 gallons and the 10-watt device is barely adequate. There is relatively little difference (about $30) in the cost of the 10-watt and 20-watt models and using more UV than you need doesn't harm anything and adds at most a few pennies to you electricity bill. If in doubt, go with the 20-watt model. Also, the specification calls for a 700gph pump (1800gph for the 20-watt model). Do not think that you can improve performance by using a larger pump. You probably won't hurt the device but the water will pass through it too quickly for the UV to kill the nasties. A pump that is too small just reduces the speed with which the entire volume of the pond passes through the clarifier. One last caution: DON'T LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE UV TUBE WHEN IT IS ILLUMINATED NO MATTER WHETHER IT IS INSIDE OR OUTSIDE OF THE QUARTZ SLEEVE. YOU CAN DAMAGE YOUR EYES IF YOU DO SO.

5from green to clean
By T. Tobiassen
This U V light system works amazingly well. Simple to hook up and use and very effective, cleaned up our pond water even faster than I expected. Our neighbors that have fish ponds are still cleaning their foam/mesh filters at least once a day and their ponds are still green. I'm cleaning my pad filter once every three to four days now and our pond is crystal clear. Very impressive that something this simple would work so well. I would highly recommend this pondmaster UV water filter to anyone.

1These last me about 9 months of duty time
By Joe Campbell
I'm on my third one of these pumps in five years. I start my waterfall up in late April and shut it down around Halloween. The pump over-winters in my heated laundry room. All three pumps have failed during their second summer. The third and current pump just went Tango Uniform this week (Mid June 2012). In other words, this means that I get about 9 months of duty time out of the pump before a failure that costs me one-third of the price of a new one.The failure is always the same, the bottom (PLASTIC!) shaft on the impeller shears off, which releases the high-RPM magnet to rattle around inside the windings. In two of my three failures, including the most recent one (three days ago), the impeller trashed the (PLASTIC!) upper bushing mount in the cover. It had *less* than nine months duty time. The company is virtually impossible to contact, and when you do manage to get someone (via email), they are dismissive, rude, and (duh!) unhelpful. My plan is fix this pump, then purchase a much less expensive 2000gph pump that has a three-year unconditional warranty.06/25/2012: This just in: Today I received the repair parts for the PM24 pump: $50 for the impeller (outrageous), $13 (outrageous) for the cover, and TWENTY DOLLARS in shipping costs from New York to Virginia (unconscionable).06/25/2012: Discovered new impeller was missing the lower bushing. Luckily the old one is serviceable.

5mag pump
By Cambeul
these are simpy the best for fountains and waterfalls. make sure you get an extra impeller as it is the only thing that wears out (mine went after 12 years in brackish water) and is easy to replace. Make sure you plumb the pipe/fittings to be able to remove the side cover to replace the impeller.

5Great Pump
By Ronald
Nice and Powerful pump. I changed the Prefilter that came with it to a square sponge prefilter to prevent the goldfish from being sucked to the inlet. Works like a charm. I made a homemade filter with a 5 gallon bucket and a lid. I drilled holes in the lid with a doorknob drill bit and made a hole big enough for the outlet tube to go in.(hose should be long enough to go to the bottom of the bucket) I stuffed the bucket with fiberfill pillow stuffing from walmart and used plastic window screen under the lid to keep the fiberfill in. You can put whatever you want inside, lava rock etc. Fast Economic filter that keeps the water crystal clear. I occasionally spray the screen if any algae starts to plug the openings with a hard stream of water and that keeps the openings clear without having to shut off the filter. The bucket can be placed at the waterfall feature. Very easy to make and very economical! Love the Pump!

5Powerful and Reliable
By Peter Landy
I have tried dozens of different brand of outside, hanging, power filters. Marineland's Emperor filter beats them all in performance and reliability. I've been in this hobby for over 40 years so I know a thing or two about filters. Every tank over 25 gallons should have at least one.

5Money Well Spent!!
By Phuoc Tran
I went and did research for the pricing of this filter for a while. I even went as far as going to 5 diffrent aquarium stores and also petco branches. But by far amazon gives the best deal. When it arrived I was so excited I installed it instantly and within 3 - 5 hours water was crystal clear. I have never seen such a great filter. Noise lvl is minimal and filters perfectly. 101% recommended!!! A+++++++++++++

5Best Filter I've Owned, Well worth it if you've broken filters before
By B. Stanley
I can't tell you how many cheaper filters I broke prior to owning this one. It was well worth the investment and broke my pattern of buying a new filter every 6 months or so. It finally needed replacement after 3 years, but only because it was damaged during moving.I have a sand aquarium with african dwarf frogs, but their upkeep isn't that different from most freshwater fish. I would highly recommend this filter to anyone who's tired of breaking filters and wants something tougher. This filter is a champ, and has dealt with an aquarium no other filter could handle.

5Gong on 20 years of service
By R. Harrast
I've had this filter for almost 20 years, but lost it in the last house move, so I'm buying another one. I like being able to see through the smoke plastic side to see if crud is building up. It uses magnets to spin the propeller, so there is no seal to leak when it is taken off the base. i make my own filter media by putting activated charcoal in a nylon stocking. Makes it cheap to run and lasts for months. Powerful and reliable.

5fantastic turtle filter
By A. Lutens
I keep an adult red-eared slider semi-aquatic turtle who is very very very messy... like most turtle owners I have struggled to keep the water clean over the years ( frequent water changes- replacing filter cartridges having been a must.) My previous filter was destroyed by the turtle and I started looking online for a replacement. I wanted a high performance filter. I bought this filter about a month ago and have been amazed since then. I keep the animal in a pre-formed pond liner in my kitchen with around 60 gallons of water. I have not so far have had to change the water ( just add some) and it is clear and free of odors. The carbon in the filter really does wonder at purifying and the blue sleeve catches the debris very well. I have replaced the sleeve twice and the carbon once in a month time. The bio wheels are I think a must for turtles as they oxygenate the water and create more movement. I had to modified the set-up a bit in order to instal it on the pond liner instead of an aquarium, which took a little time, but so far have had zero problems. I highly recommend this product to anybody who takes care of turtles. It is powerful, quiet and very well made.

5Good value, crystal water!
By Bibiana Tamayo
We are located in Colombia, south america, where this filter is hard to find. The filter is little to medium size, but in 48 hours makes your water so clear that the fish look like flying on air...We use it to clean our tanks, it does a great cleaning job, this filter is ready to use, it comes with activated carbon, hoses, etc... all you need is a little hose cutting (to match tank hight), and plug the power cord...The filter has been working for over a month now... absolutly NO problem! Weve changed the normal cartridge to the "Polishing" one... just amazing!... We breed discus and sometimes betta fish, having 7 discus in a 250 lt tank and the water quality raise so much that one new pair started spawning after polishing the water. the other tanks we own where passed thru the filter with excelllent results!, clear "new looking" water pronto.Clean water = Healthy and happy fishThe only messy thing ive noticed is in the moment you want to open the filter for mainteinence and you where using the activated carbon recipient... well that recipient ant the filter`s top (where you connect the hoses) unite strongly... so when you open the filter, you have to be carefull because with the filter's top comes the recipient's top and you can spill some carbon...tough its easy to clean and we find it very practical.

5The best money can buy!
By S. A DUNN
Years ago when I had many aquaria set up I tried both the Vortex diatom filter and the Magnum filter. The Magnum filter outlasted the Vortex filter by years, and the only reason I still do not have my magnum is that I sold all my aquaria stuff after a divorce years ago :(Now that I am in a good stable relationship, out comes the aquarium lusts again! I plan on getting the Magnum 350 here at Amazon soon. What makes the Magnum so special is that you can use it as a continuous filter media/activated charcoal filter in your large tank and it will sit there filtering the water for months with no upkeep. And when it is time to clean and replenish it's media, the operation is easy to do. AND, you can convert this filter into a diatomacious earth filter for those massive grungy tank cleaning jobs. This filter can remove all the crud from large tanks and still keep great water flow. Again, it is easy to clean out this unit after diatom use and re convert it into a everyday power filter.Once you buy a Magnum, it will last a lifetime.

4Works well
By M. Umberger
We got this filter for a turtle tank. Two red-eared-sliders. They make a big mess. It's a 40 gallon aquarium filled about half way. So this filter is way oversized. However, all the smaller mechanisms we used didn't do the job. This one seems to work fine. It keeps the water much cleaner than any others we have tried. A quick rinse of the filter cover every few days keeps it in top shape. It's fairly quiet too. That's important as it's in my daughter's bedroom.

4Great filter
By CarGuy
I've had a 75 gallon tank for about 30 years. This is only the 1st time I've had to replace the original Magnum I started with. I stared experiencing problems with the motor about 3 months ago, which I repaired, and then it stopped pumping as much water. I probably could have repaired that, as well, but felt it was probably time to get the latest and greatest. The main reason I stayed with Magnum, aside from my extreme satisfaction with my first one, is the ability to use generic charcoal/filtering materials. I took the opportunity to look at several other makes and all required the use of their own filters, pads, etc., all at high cost. Being able to use generic supplies keeps the long term costs down. Installation was a breeze. The reason for a 4 instead of a 5 rating is due to the slight difficulty of positioning the unit under the tank. Due to the quick release valves, the actual height needed is much higher than the actual height of the unit itself. I found that I had to "force" the hose to bend around the edge of the tank to go up the back. It seems to put a lot of stress everything and I'm concerned about the long term effect. Time will tell. In the meantime it works great, is quiet, and I am looking forward to another 30 years!
