Thermo-Tec 14110 48" X 48" Cool-It Mat Product Description:

  • The Cool-It Mat is composed of resin-bonded silica blanketing insulation sandwiched between a mylar facing on one side and a foil facing on the other
  • The highly-reflective mylar reflects heat away from surfaces while the foil side is orientated away from the heat source to conduct any penetrating heat across its surface thus providing the ultimate in heat protection
  • The silica blanketing is a duel-density composite and is the main sound insulator; it is easy to trim and can be applied with the push-in fasteners provided or any weather strip adhesive

Product Description

Use the Cool-It Mat to battle excessive heat and noise that penetrate the driver compartment through the firewalls and floorboards. It is also perfect in doors, under hoods, and above transmission housings. The Cool-It Mat is composed of resin-bonded silica blanketing insulation sandwiched between a mylar facing on one side and a foil facing on the other. The highly-reflective mylar reflects heat away from surfaces, while the foil side is orientated away from the heat source to conduct any penetrating heat across its surface thus providing the ultimate in heat protection.

5Great product

After having the pans replaced in my '67 mustang, I wanted to install a thermal barrier to make it a more comfortable daily driver. After prep, I applied POR15 to the entire floor. I then placed sound deadening material (similar to dynamat) covering approx. 75% of the floorboard. Then I laid the Thermo-tec down using 3M Foil tape to secure it together and hi-temp spray adhesive to secure it to the floor. Cutting was easy with a pair of scissors. This created a continuous sheet across the entire floorboard of my mustang. I was divided on whether to re-install the old carpet matting or lay the carpet directly on top of the thermo-tec. Finally I decided that It wouldn't hurt to replace the carpet matting and did so. The only problem I encountered was the thickness of everything when reinstalling the seats but this wasn't a major problem. Matching up the holes to everything was sort of a challenge because I didn't punch holes in the thermotec while I was installing it (the holes for the seats and seat belts etc.).Initial assessment: The floorboard is much cooler than it was. Before I could feel heat coming from the floorboard through the carpet. Now it's been virtually eliminated. Keep in mind, the weather has changed and it'd become much cooler here in Georgia, but I would say that there is a significant difference. Two 48" x 48" and two 24" x 48" mats were enough to cover my entire floorboard ('67 mustang coupe) with a little left over. One 2" x 50 yrd roll of foil tape was more than enough. Overall it's a good product. Just make sure you don't leave any gaps!
