Product Description

The Nakamichi CD400 incorporates state-of-the-art 24-bit digital-to-analog converters an advanced technology application unheard of before in the mid-price range. The result audibly superior musical reproduction! To complement the ultimate in digital-to-analog conversion accuracy, a high-resolution preamplifier circuit topology was developed to achieve ultra low-noise and distortion levels and a highly linear signal transmission to the powerful and dynamic 47 W x 4 channel power amplifier. Additionally, triple-band tone controls, a Nakamichi tradition, are included to allow for fine-tuning the bass, midrange and high frequency ranges - essential for the corrective compensation of the poor acoustics in automobile interiors or source program material. The Nakamichi CD400's extraordinary mechanics and electronics are combined with an equally refined cosmetic design. Understated, yet sophisticated, Nakamichi CD400 will grace the dashboard of any automobile in which it is fitted. The color of the front panel illumination is user-selectable to best match the color scheme of the automobiles' dash. On the Nakamichi CD400 LCD display, green or amber is selectable as are the units illuminated push buttons, allowing for four different color combinations.

2Excellent Sound if you use CD's but poor with the aux input - Beware of WoofersEtc
By windtzu
I've had the unit in for about a week now. BIG audio improvement over the Kenwood x995 I just pulled out - The Kenwood sounded over processed and fatiguing...hurts the ears after twenty minutes of listening. The Nakamichi may not have all the bells and whistles of Pandora, Bluetooth, etc., but it does one thing better than anything I've heard in its price range when playing cd's: produce smooth, clean, high quality sound In addition, it's simple to use. There's no worries about driving off the road while you're trying to change radio stations, adjust the settings, etc. Nice. The CD player is smooth and never skips. The AM-FM is below average but is serviceable. Now for the bad news. The sound quality of auxiliary input leaves much to be desired. I understand "ipods" don't exactly produce audiophile quality, but the step down in sound quality as well as lowered volume is greater than other unit I've experienced - including my old factory system with and aux input. If you only listen to CD's then this isn't a problem, but if you're primarily using an external device then I wouldn't recommend buying this unit. It isn't worth it.Buyer beware: I purchased mine from WoofersEtc. My Nak. had a problem with the volume control knob from day one. I contacted their customer service dept and they were very nice, very sympathetic, and told me it was a problem with the faceplate and that I would have to mail it back to them at my expense. ??? So I had the unit for one day and will have wait for it to be repaired, and pay shipping besides. I will also have to be without a stereo for a week or so. I realize that's not their problem but there are better ways to treat a customer. This isn't something companies like Crutchfield, Best Buy, or Apple would do to their customers. They would just swap it out, send out another unit, or refund my money.WoofersEtc. will accept returns but charges either a 20 or 30% re-stocking fee and is good toward credit only. So from a practical standpoint, you can't return any products to them.

5Excellent CD Receiver
By Keiko
Been a Nak owner since the mid 1980's when I had a Nak TD700 in my car. Paired with a/d/s/ 320i and 300i powered with 2 Nak PA300II amps. Sold the a/d/s 300i and 1 amp to a good friend since my car was totalled in an accident and picked up a Toyota pickup. The TD700 died and replaced with a Nak CD45z which the laser just crashed after 10 years. Replaced the unit with a Sony CDXGT930UI and couldn't make the sound even come close to a Nak. Cranked up, the Sony made my wife's and my ears ache so I pulled the unit out and replaced with the Nakamichi CD400 purchased from Woofers, Etc. through Amazon.com. It sounds awesome and still pushing the 20+ year old a/d/s/ speakers and Nakamichi PA300II amp with pure clean sound. Smooth jazz to heavy metal, its like heaven. Waiting to put an Infinity Basslink loaded subwoofer within the next month and the system should be complete. So happy Nakamichi is still producing great sounding products but the cost is 1/3 of what they used to cost. I'm forever a Nak fanboy and will never get anything else.
