For 8-Inch LX200-Series. A long exposure necessity. An Equatorial Wedge is for exposures longer than about 5 minutes (under 5 minutes, a wedge is not necessary). A wedge permits precise polar alignment of your telescope in equatorial mode (compared to Alt/Az mode). This eliminates field rotation in long-exposure photographs by allowing you to align the telescope’s axis of rotation with the Earth’s axis of rotation. Die cast aluminum wedges include fine adjusters, no-tool knobs, and a compass for faster aligning on the pole. Choose the appropriate 8-Inch EQ Wedge or our extra heavy duty Ultra-Wedge.

Reasonably well engineered, with a few minor issues.

Sturdy mount, does what it is supposed to do. I do have a few minor issues...1) The included instructions appear to be from an older version of the hardware. Don't worry that you've lost the fine-adjust "L" bracket. It has been replaced by the rod you see in the picture. Some of the cap-screws have been replaced by knobs, which may be different than the knobs in the picture.2) There is a degree scale on the side of the unit, but the knob masks a pretty large area, making it difficult to see exactly where you are.3) There is a compass in the knob that holds the wedge to the tripod. Unfortunately, the threaded rod that screws into the knob is a) likely to be magnetized just enough to skew the needle b) unlikely to be fully tightened without popping the compass out.4) There is a bubble level in the mount. The position can be tricky to see, when the scope is mounted and you want to verify that the tripod hasn't shifted under the weight.

wedge is sturdy,easy to install,except....azimuth control didn't line up with my meadetripod.only one screw is holding it on...true value ment...plan on going to hardware storeto get a few things to help in setting thiswedge on tripod correctly....
