Everyone should have one

I have five APC UPS units, two of the SUA750's. They work perfectly - I've never lost power to my computer in five years, despite my power company's repeated best efforts! It switches quickly under power loss -your computer will never know what happened. The unit tests the battery every two weeks, even if you don't want it to. Good insurance, but the downside is the battery will fail after about three years. A new battery is $50, so that's $17 a year - cheap insurance. Buy one, or several.

I have two of these at the moment, have owned for at least four years. This is (to my knowledge) the lowest cost UPS that provides a sine-wave output.Also, your BSD machines can interface to the serial port via apc-upsd. I presume Linux has a solution as well.The number of power outages I've encountered over the years have more than paid for this UPS! This is better than car insurance; spend the money on this excellent quality UPS and you will not regret it.

This unit works great with my new PC. Several other UPS units like the 1100 APC UPS would not work. Dell tells me that this is one of the few units that works with my new Studio XPS 9000.
