Good Quality Fun Rocking Horse.

My 16 month old boy loves this horse. He unwrapped it christmas morning and was just stood there touching its nose and its ear. It took ages to get his other presents opened as he kept going back to this one. It is lovely quality.....really easy to put together in a short time. My only complaint would be that the sides of the straight pieces of wood that affix under the horse are actually very sharp...my teenager caught his ankle on an edge and had an inch long gouge in his skin. Really they just needed to be rounded off. It rocks nicely and I am very pleased with it and so is my little guy. Highly recommended, but adults mind your ankles.

Hi-ho Lightning!

My parents decided they wanted to buy our 15mo son a rocking horse for Christmas and asked me to pick out one. Melissa and Doug products are a favorite in our house so as soon as I saw this product, I was fairly certain this was the one! Our horse's name is Ligtning and both my son and my 3yo daughter love him! The base is made of sturdy, attractive wood and is a nice platform for boarding (mounting?) Ligtning. The horse itself is soft and the realistic horse sounds he makes when you press his ear are a bonus! My son can board and deboard the horse all by himself as well as make him rock once on. Buy this for your child, you won't be sorry!

I wanted a rocking horse that combined the quality of a hard wood rocker and the soft feel of plush.Overall, this Melissa and Doug horse is a great value for the price.THE PLUSES:It is very good looking, realistic and soft to touch.The face is well made and attractive. The mane and tail are soft and do not shed hairs, even when pulled by baby. The body is a nice deep brown velvet, very soft.Although the age recommendation is 2 yr+, it is easy to climb up and down for my one year old (25 lbs, 32 inches) who is not walking quite yet. She also figured out how to rock it the first time!The sounds you get when you press the ear are realistic, not too loud or too long, not annoying at all: some "clip clop" then some neigh.THE CONS:The wood used for the rocking part, although hard wood, is not the best: it is some light pine with big knots which make it fragile (we received a first horse with the rocking part broken in the package just 2 days before Christmas; fortunately, Amazon saved the day by shipping a replacement instantly and making the return totally painless). I oiled and polished the base and it looks very nice but the knots could be weak points.The saddle material is a bit disappointing (plastic with a clothes backing) but seems to do the trick just fine.The horse is quite large which could be a plus or a minus: it takes quite a bit of space (you need 2ft x 3ft at least of free floor space to play) but on the other hand, I could see my daughter using it for 2-3 years before outgrowing it.Assembly was easy: the toy comes in two pieces with the horse body detached from its rocking base and all you need to do is screw each leg to the base. You have to proceed with a little caution as the legs need to be slightly stretched out to match the holes on the base. 5 painless minutes!Overall, this is a beautiful toy, especially for the price. Baby really likes to play with it, several times a day for the past 2 weeks she's had it. I would recommend it, if you have the space.And what a hit under the tree on Christmas morning!
