5Saved me a lot of money
By Vivek Gupta
I moved into a house recently that has 4 pairs of speakers set up around the house. My initial thought was to find a distribution amplifier that I could use, however those turned out to be much more money than I wanted to spend. After a bit more looking I found that I could run speakers in parallel, however I needed to be careful with my amplifiers otherwise I could ruin them because of the way ohm ratings work when running speakers in parallel. This device makes it so that you safely connect multiple speakers (up to six pairs) to a single stereo amplifier (or two monoblocks as I have) as long as the amplifiers can handle a 4-ohm load and you can have no more than 250 watts per channel at 8 ohms. The connectors on this seem to handle the 12 gauge wiring that I am using from my Amp without a problem and the speaker wires (not sure of the gauge) seems fine. I am using a pair of Marantz MA-500 monoblock amps (125 watts each at 8 ohms and 180 watts at 4 ohms) and everything seems to be running smoothly.I bought the HPS-6 because the price difference between the HPS-6 and HPS-4 wasn't enough to keep me from having the expandability for the future. The only negative is that there is not individual volume control at the selector, though there are models that have that capability, unfortunately typically the models that have that ability don't have the same power handling abilities that this unit does.I am quite satisfied with my purchase and found it easy to install.
