4Very Nice Keyboard, Trackball A Bit Baulky
By Reader from Washington, DC
I bought this product because I was getting all kinds of arm muscle pain from using a regular desk trackball, separate from the keyboard. The pain was similar to the pain that caused me to give up using a regular desk computer mouse years ago.My physical therapist said I should use a keyboard that I could put on my lap, and that somehow I would need to put a trackball there too. I did some reasearch, found some keyboards with built-in trackballs and tried several of them.My arm pain and wrist pain stopped very quickly. It is very comfortable typing with the keyboard in your lap, the built-in trackball on the upper right, and the two trackball buttons on the upper left of the keyboard.Having the trackball buttons on the opposite side of the keyboard was also good for my hands and arms -- when I had a separate trackball with the buttons attached to it, on a desk, I had been overworking my trackball hand pretty severely. The keyboard has keys where you don't have to press down too hard -- another benefit for weary hands and arms.Because it is a "mini" keyboard, the keys are closer together than they would be on a regular keyboard -- it took a little getting used to, but I like it, as I can type faster. Some of the less frequently used keys are smaller than on a regular keyboard, and in slightly different locations, but on the whole, Adesso has done a very good job of getting all of the essential keys into a mini-keyboard.The only real problem is that the trackball itself is a bit baulky from time to time -- it will move fine for a while and then stick a bit if it gets dirty, which can be annoying if you are in the middle of a project.I have found that the best solution to this problem is to moisten a paper towel with a bit of water and spin it against the trackball, moving the trackball in many different directions. Then I used a dry paper towel, and spin the trackball against it it many different directions to dry it. That seems to unstick it.There does not appear to be any way to take the trackball out of its slot to clean it -- I unscrewed the keyboard case to see if I could do that, but there does not seem to be a way to extract the trackball to clean it directly.Because of the trackball sticking once in while, I have given the keyboard four stars instead of five stars.I tried using a regular sized Adesso trackball keyboard after using this mini-keyboard and found that I preferred the mini-keyboard.
