4Managed 24 port gigabit switch
By Zac
I purchased one of these over a year ago, and it has turned out well. I plugged it in and it worked (as an upgrade from an unmanaged SMC 10/100 * 16 port switch). I wanted to change some settings; after a few experiments I had it tweaked the way I wanted. After that, it has only gone down or restarted when power was out. Works fine with SMC (10/100), TPLink (10/100/1000), DLink (10/100), and NetGear (10/100) switches attached, as well as with 3Com (10/100), SMC (10/100), Intel (10/100/1000), Marvell (10/100/1000), Broadcom (10/100/1000), and some other ethernet NICs in my collection (mostly 10Mb/s). I'm using UTP Cat5E cables in general. The management interface lacks the ability to name ports (so I need to keep a file somewhere else with the list of connected devices). Otherwise I'd rate it as very good. It includes features like counters (frame, byte, various errors per port), password protection (but only password!) for the management interface, forced speed/duplex per port, all of which work well for me. It also has features such as aggregation, VLAN, priority, jumbo frames, and other things I don't normally use (simple network with a mix of devices). My biggest complaint would be that they used cheap fans (unhappily, it seems nearly everybody does). When I first got it, it was fairly quiet (you could hear the air flowing and some usual blade noise), but after several months the bearings started to go in the fans and now the rattling of the fans can be heard amongst all the other noise in my computer room (so it would be somewhere between obvious and obnoxious if I had it in an otherwise quiet room). I keep it clean, so there is no dust buildup on the fans. For what I paid for it when it was new, quality dual-ball-bearing fans would have been expected (even if this would have made it cost a few dollars more, it would have been worth it). None of the fans have failed yet, but as they continue to get louder, I'm looking for replacements.

4Would be 5 stars, if default was set to DHCP
By D. Rodenborn
I bought three of these switches for our network hub. They are fantastic, except for one small nit - they're all set to an IP address that interferes with our router. Would have been better if they had set the switch to get an IP address using DHCP. Other than that, I love how reliable and fast robust they've been, and the GBIC ports have come in handy.

5We use them all the time
By CSharpDad
These do a great job. We have installed them at many of our customers and are using them in our colo facility rack. VLans work great. Never had a problem with one. Their UI is a bit dated and only works in IE. They could use some web interface changes but overall it runs and stays running. SNMP works great with it also.
