This 24mm Panoptic, designed to produce the largest true field possible in a 1-1/4" eyepiece. (Its 27mm field stop is the same as the 32mm Tele Vue Plossl).The higher power darkens the sky background while the greater magnification yields more details on extended objects. The 24 mm Panoptic is a great piece of glass. Wonderful views in my 8" Newtonian reflector (xt8i) and my 60mm Meade refractor. It has excellent build quality as expected from a TeleVue product. It is an upgrade from Meade 4000 series plossls. I chose this one over the Meade super wide, because I plan to keep it forever and figured the additional cost was worth it in the long run. Although Explore Scientific has come out with a 68deg line which might have changed my mind if it was available at the time I purchased this.Pros:-Made by TeleVue one of the best companies in the business-Great build quality-Widely recognized as one of if not the best 68deg 24mm eyepiece out thereCons:-You pay a premium for excellence-significantly more expensive than the second best.-It is on the heavier side, but shouldn't be a problem for most scopes.
