Nice track light kit

We needed track lights for a vaulted ceiling in our living room, and I decided to go with these after much research. I didn't want to pay a ton of money, and wanted real track lights vs. a light fixture. These are about 4 feet wide, and while the light heads are very small relative to other track lights I've seen, they are very bright and even one set can substantially light a room. I replaced the halogen bulbs with LED bulbs (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0094BDAHG/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_8) so that I'd never have to climb up a ladder and change the bulbs. These particular LED lights are dimmable. Our electrician installed the lights for us, and we purchased a Pro Track connector to join two 3-light kits together into a single, 6-light track and stretch it across our ceiling.Pros:- Very bright- Compact - these aren't huge and clunky, but they do pack a lot of punch from a lighting standpoint- Compatible with LED lights- Blend nicely into our white ceilingCons:- Almost too bright - I'm worried these will be blinding when we're sitting under them trying to watch TV. These might be better for highlighting artwork against a wall than as a primary light source for a room.- Perhaps not as attractive as a light fixture.

Underestimated mic!

I have had this mic (actually two of them) for over a year now and I can say now that I absolutely love it. The mic has great sound quality and is useful in many situations.I originally bought it to record acoustic guitar and it sounds great. While a cheaper condenser, it still picks up every nuance of my Martin guitar with very low self noise. Obviously this mic won't compare to a Neumann, but for a poor man's home studio, it's great.I also ended buying another one because I liked it so much and I have since recorded a Dave Matthews Band concert in stereo with it. While a little hollow on the low end (I think the frequency response only goes down to 40Hz), it sounds clear and crisp. The fact that it could run on a AA battery was extremely helpful as I ran it into a portable recorder that could not supply phantom power.As for live sound, I have used it on vocals, guitar, and piano. In all three situations it performed well and once again, for its price range, I was impressed.I have since purchased more expensive microphones, but I still find myself turning to them when I need a nice, dependable condenser, especially during on-location recording. For a home studio, this is a great multipurpose condenser mic.

One of the few mics left that can use phantom OR battery power - great specs and sound quality

I know that great specs can be misleading so, even though this attractive item has superb specifications for such an affordable microphone, I called Audio Technica and talked to one of their pro techs. He had actually participated in some comparative tests with this mike and he verified that it's a really special gem of a product. I needed a mike that would work with a AA battery - as most affordable condensors used to. I was stunned to find o0ut how rare this option is nowadays. I also called Shure and AKG and some other manufacturers and they do not have anything comparable. I am feeling very lucky to find a really nice looking brand name microphone that has great sound and can be powered using phantom power from a sound board OR a simple AA battery. I use this hand held for vocal recording and I also use it with a camcorder (using AA battery power). The results are always better than I expect!
