This was one of the first in a long line of "enhanced" ATX motherboards from ASUS.Support for the board is fairly good from the mfr. and it runs good. It comes witha number of utilities on the system/chipset driver disk, and older but potentiallyuseful add-on software.I used 4x512Mb Kingston KVR400X64C25/512 memory modules recommended by ASUS and itran in dual-channel mode with 2Gb total SDRAM @266Mhz. Usually the effective speedof RAM is half that of the rated speed, and the rated RAM speed half the FSB speedin most installations. This ASUS P4P800 SE has a 800Mhz FSB.The on-board GigE LAN worked good, and the AGP video slot also performed well witha NVIDEA GE Force MX100/200 64Mb add-in card for basic 32 bit VGA graphics. I used an Intel Pentium 4 3.0E Gigahertz Hyperthreading CPU (sSPEC #SL7E4) with EvercoolFAN-P4-S478-3 cooler in an ASUS TA-230 ATX case and included 300W P/S. A front fanand 2 rear fans were installed. This provided plenty of cooling in a well-ventedThermally Advantaged ATX 2.0 case. I installed Windows XP SP3 and IE7 in this set-up for an OS and Browser. For an older system used for email and other basic tasks, and for a print server itwill function quite well for everyday use, having 4 front and rear USB ports, plusPS/2 mouse and keyboard, parallel printer and serial port connectors. Older Legacydevices will find new life using this motherboard. Use a sound card like a CreativeLabs, the audio is MUCH better than the AC97 onboard chip can provide only basic.
