Worst user interface and directions ever

This item works well. (However the first one I bought already broke, well within a year, and I was very careful with it.) It can be set to vibrate (which is what broke) or to an audible alarm mode. I use it as a meditation timer, and it works well for that; I change techniques during my sessions, and since it has multiple timers, it's great to tell me when to do so. However, even in vibrate mode, it's far too loud to use while others meditate near you. Also, you can set a timer to go off, for example, at random times during the day, as a reminder to do something (like adjust one's posture). However, such random timers go off no matter what mode you're in. Thus, for example, if you're trying to time a meditation session, it may fail you, as the random timer might go off before the session is scheduled to end.BTW, the instruction manual stinks, and I'm a tech kind of guy. I RTFM. (If you don't know what "RTFM" means, then you're not a tech person.) The manual is also extremely difficult to read (the WORST I've ever encountered), not just from a substantive point of view, but also from a visual perspective. The resolution (i.e. pixels per inch) is WAY too low. I strongly suspect that this item is sold mostly to sick people, to remind them to take their medicine. If their Meds. are to treat vision, just READING the manual may prove extremely difficult. I tried downloading the manual from ePill's website, and you get the same, awful manual. Furthermore, if I recall correctly (and I'm pretty sure I do), the manual is a .pdf that can't be edited. (I tried fixing it in Photoshop, but that proved impossible. If I recall, one can't even rasterize a single page, so it can't be edited.) What's the point of this? It makes NO sense.However, despite it's awful instructions and unreliability over time--and maybe I just got a lemon off of the production line--I do recommend this item, given the near total lack of competition.MARCH 2011 UPDATE TO THIS REVIEW:Buy this instead:Timer, Meditation; Invisible Clock IISeems to be essentially (or TOTALLY) the same thing, but with a slightly improved interface and more readable instructions. And, for some reason, it's like 1/2 the price (as of March 2011).My only complaint about this Amazon-affiliated seller is that they don't put a .pdf file of the instructions on their website. Other than that, they seemed to be great. The item arrived far sooner than it was promised to me. I never had to do a return with them. Since THAT's the litmus test of a great retailer, I can't say for sure that they're great. This item seems to be made by one company (I THINK e-pill) for a bunch of other companies. Most or all of them seem to call it "Invisible Clock II," or some variation on that. Anyway, I went with the Laughing Buddha Trading version, and so far it seems alright.

Small, Compact -- good for multiple alarms or vibrate, timer, stop watch, time & date, back-lit-- hard to set...

I use this when I am back on my work-out routines. I am female, well past 50 years of age, and working out on a regular routine is the best thing to keep me youthful and energy high.But a good regimen for working out is not easy. My meals are timed -- I eat 6 small meals a day instead of 3 regular sized ones at specific times relative to my exercise. I exercise 5 days a week in the AM (cardio) and 3 days a week in the PM (weights.)When my food and exercise are spot clean, I also add a lot of vitamins, minerals and supplements appropriate for my age, gender and goals.I am a high level professional and it is pretty easy to get so absorbed in my work that I forget to eat, I stay too late in the office, etc. It tends to cause me to binge eat (and not so healthily) late at night.When I really want to get back onto my routine -- I use these e-pill alarms as a reminder. I use them to beep me when to take my pills and supplements, when to go exercise, when to eat my meals, when to start winding down from work and when to get ready for bed and when to turn out the lights.I ordered 3 a few years ago because I had 3 different daily routines over the course of the week-- now that I am older, I have cut back on the number of days I work out from 7 to 5. So that gives me 4 daily routines.The battery in one of the e-pill reminders corroded and fried the reminder.I have searched the web to see if any newer products have come out --and these still seem to be the best though they are not without their shortcomingsSo I am ordering 2 more -- one for the extra routine and one to replace the battery-corroded one.As the previous reviewer noted -- the digital numerals are small-- if you need glasses you may even need a magnifying glass depending on how poor your vision is to set it. But once it is set -- it is permanent until you take the battery out.But it is a PIA to set. It is not intuitively obvious -- and the control buttons don't function as carefully as one might like-- e.g., it is really easy to go one digit too far in setting it and since there is no "back button" you have to go through all the numerals again -- 60 if it is minutes, 24 if it is hours, 30 if it is the date of the month -- etc.But, as I said, once you set it -- it is set. That is why it is worth it to me to have one for each daily routine so I never have to set it again after the first time. That is expensive --- but so it goes. In the long run -- my time is worth more.I also like the fact that it has a vibrate option, for when I am in meetings and a back-lit feature for when it is darkIt is a trade-off between the difficulties of setting it and keeping the item small compact and light-weight. I don't think it could be designed any better in this framework with out new technology.
